Now that a few manufacturers are getting i7 quads into their lappy's (ie Dell Studio 15's), is there any news or rumour on when the Macbook pro's will be refreshed?

By the looks of it, and going with their usual calender dates of events...it could be early in the new year. January/February time when the Arrandale's are released. Then again they might not, the C2D they have in the machines at the moment have easily enough power to run them at least another year or two. May be a bit to early for them to jump on that particular bad wagon just yet.

...TBH iv given up trying to predict such things. Apple seem to do what they want, regardless of the market or whats hot at them moment.

how awesome a business position to be in when you can control when your customers will buy, regardless of seasons, spending patterns or even definable needs to upgrade!

Yes, they control their market expertly and I've great respect for them for it - it's something that will elude most businesses forever.

On the macbook pro, well I expect updates in January or around that time but I don't necessarily expect quad core chips to be part of it. But I suspect it'll be fairly soon now the imac's have them and there's rumours floating around about a new version of aperture with, among other things, multi core optimisations...

How about graphic card wise? Are there any mobile graphic chips out recently/comin out soon that could potentially replace the current 9600 gt?

Wouldnt put money on a graphics update, the 9600 is a pretty sturdy/good performance chip really

I wouldnt imagine a macbook pro update again for a while.... *hugs summer 09 macbook pro*

I think there are new MacBook Pros due but whether we'll see them before the new year, I'm not sure.

The model numbers of yet non-existent MacBook Pros were found in some recent update.

My crystal ball says Jan/Feb 2010 for Macbook Pro updates.

Arrandale will be the cpu of choice which is still only dual core. The base model/s will probably use the on die graphics of the Arrandale, with integrated graphics solutions on the high end 15" and 17" models something along the lines of a ATI Mobility 4830.

I just can't see a Clarksfield quad core model due to power requirements and heat, but if Apple do manage to engineer a solution logic would suggest the 17" or maybe even a new 19" model would be selected.

Hell what do I know, Apple may well see in another 6 months with Core 2 Duo! :D

I plan to buy a MBP but unsure if I should wait or buy now, I leave jan 6th so will need to purchase before then... Gutted if it gets upgraded a few weeks after.

If you need it now, buy it now otherwise you could be waiting forever. If the current spec is good enough then it's time to splash the cash!

As a non-MBP owner I'd tend to agree. From what I've been seeing, Apple often plays with the spec. For example, the latest 15" MBP's have replaced the 9600M GT with only a 9400M. So if the spec is right now, then get it. WHo knows what the spec will be in a few months.

I don't need it now but would be nice to play with but would be disappointing if I waited until the end of Dec for an update which seems unlikely so I'll probably splash out soon :D. I do need it by Jan 6th hence why I might wait and see what happens.

I'd be incredibly surprised if there's a new model by the 6th Jan and as that's your deadline you'd really be better of getting it now and enjoying it straight away.
