Stalker 3.50 on Steam, worth it?

I've bought it and finally downloaded after endless nightmares with steam since its last patch. Then I couldn't get the game to load and now it's updating it to the latest version, I just hope it will work after this.

Btw has anybody put complete 2009 on the steam version?

The main character or the NPCs?
I quite like the silent protagonist, much like Half Life.
And I also quite like that the NPCs don't say much, especially when I can read it in half the time they say it, I just get bored waiting for them to spit it out if I can read it as well ;)

For £3.50 I'd say most games are worth a punt

I take it you didn't go for the "saints row" offer then? :D I feel so sorry for the people that paid full price for that abortion.

Stalker is great, worth 3.50 of anyone's money. I wouldn't bother with the complete mod if I were you, I much prefer the original, the mod makes everything too dark.

Well I'd say both, but I can live without the main character speaking. These days it seems odd not to have audible voices, when we've got gigs worth of space to make use of, and yet the graphics have to keep on advancing.

That was true in the early versions of the mod. It's much better in the latest version (1.4 i think) - there is usually some source of light at night time, either the moon, starlight, radiation glow etc.

I think it's generally done as a conscious design decision myself. I much prefer it if the character i'm playing as doesn't speak, as it's easier to get immersed into the idea that it's 'me'. In other games, as soon as the character starts spouting the usual retarded US marine gung-ho clichés it just ruins things.

I started playing this with the Complete 2009 mod and it seems good, and challenging. One thing I don't get is I keep getting radiation damage no matter what I do, I'm up to the 2nd area and I seem to constantly have radiation damaging me >.< I use the injection thing and vodka to get rid of it but it comes back like 5 sec later.. and gets worse.

Am I meant to have some armor or something to prevent radiation before I go into 2nd zone ?

Help appriciated.

Sounds like a bug to me.

argh i have the game, played around in starting area, really enjoying it. However my computer absoloutley sux testicles, and the pain of having to play it on medium graphics and without the complete 2009 mod is unbearable. I think I'm going to have to shelve the game until I get my new PC so I can play it on maximum with complete 2009.

You have almost certainly fitted one of the common artifacts you found lying around which although give you say a bonus against bleeding, they also give you a negative bonus to radiation. Without any other stuff on you to boost radiation protection then your overall radiation will be negative and just standing around will cause it to rise, even a -5%. Basically the game forces you to consider the pros and cons of artifacts, you can't always just slap one on and think it is bound to help.

Yeah I did that as well, I put an artifact on and then kept getting sick and died, lol.

What's the deal with walking about outside, then all of a sudden everything gets brighter and things start exploding, lol.
There's no one around as far as I can see.

aye - read the +/- on each artifact before using it.
you need a balance of -radiation and +radiation to get you radiation to 0 or -.

common -radiation is the teardrop shaped Droplet which gives you +10 radiation protection but the downside is -18 endurance.

a lot of the early arti's add 5% radiation so with 2 of those you need 1 droplet to balance :)

I bought this off of Steam just before the deadline. Played it when it first came out but was frustrated that on a decent machine it played really slowly even at some lower resolutions. Now even with just an Ai5770 it plays great even at 1920*1200. I also have the Complete 2009 mod installed.
Only downside wiht steam is the lack of a manual. I think this type of game needs one to read. I may search for one online but I don`t want a walkthrough, just background to the game, radiaiton, what to take for radiation, artifacts and how to find them.

Hopefully steam do a special on Clearsky also soon!

Sounds like your walking into an anomaly or whatever they are called - you should here the beeping/ticking before it all goes flash bang.

I'm playing Clear Sky right now. Its not really a spoiler but I'm finding it a royal PITA trying to find all the flash drives.
