Male ear piercing?

i had one when i was a student, a small silver hoop that just fit around my lobe..., but took it out when i started working properly.

You shouldn't, the ones provided are normally a neutral metal and will allow for your ear to heal and fix without getting infected etc. etc. Some people react to metals, but they don't know until they've changed piercings.

For the first one, leave it till it's healed properly, then change it. I went from the silver circle with ball above to the twist with spikes (or balls depends what I feel like having on it) after about 6 months. It meant that it was fully healed, also the twist has a larger diameter than the silver one and is at an angle. If I'd put it in early it could well have hurt and damaged the ear's healing process.

Depends what type of piercings to be fair, big gold loops worn by chavvy blokes look so stupid it's untrue whereas some types of ear rings can look pretty cool. I'm definately not into the big hole in your ear type things though, I have no idea what the proper name for them is..
