Kind of looking at getting a new monitor and GFX card and selling my imac 24 to pay for it since all it is right now is a pretty 24 inch screen with a slow computer underneath. Really Im wondering if I should go with a 24" like a Dell or the 26" LG mentioned in this forum before. Im thinking that the pixels will be larger on the 26 so less sharpness, but for watching blu-rays it would be good to have the size since I dont have a large TV. It would be for the PC games and 360 as well as just normal use, but I have a 19" too I would use for browsing probably.

Sorry if thats long winded, just looking for any advice or experience here. Thanks, BDBMX.

24" Dell ultrasharp wins every time, unless you can afford the 27" version, then that. It's much sharper than most, the colours are a lot better than on any other monitor within that price range (unless you go flat panel CRT), and the response time is good as well

iirc the new revision has HDMI or comes with a HDMI>DVI adaptor so should support your 360

I have the Dell 2709W and used to have the Dell 2408WFP.

I found the 2408WFP was good for movies - but I found that using my 32in Samsung LCD TV was better due to sheer size (obviously the picture quality was worse, but the trade off was worth it in most cases).

I now have the 2709W, an all I can say is ...Wow. I was worried that the pixels would be too big - but actually they are perfect. Reading text is much easier and watching HD movies is an absolute treat. Like the 2408WFP (and the U2410) it has an HDMI port and 2 DVI-D ports (plus a few other connector types), so connecting up an XBOX on any of these top-end dells is very easy - if you set it to 1:1 scaling mode it will actually display the exact pixel output - so there is no image stretching (though you will get black bars).

There is one "problem" though. The image on these monitors is so fantastic that if you play standard-def movies on them - they look a bit poor. This is the monitors fault as everything else looks fantastic and the difference is very apparent when you put lower-quality video on it.

LG W2600HP(-BF) has IPS-panel with low input lag but only computer connections (DVI/VGA) so connecting it to both PC and console at the same time would require DVI switch.

Also IPS-paneled Dell U2410 has game mode with lowish input lag (unlike S-PVA paneled 2709W ) and connections are similar to WFP-models.

Thanks for the replies people Im taking it all on board. Is input lag a serious problem with the 2709W then? I do like to play FPS games so if its going to slow me down noticably I will avoid it. The LG sounds good but I can only find the PF model on google which seems to have a TN panel instead of the IPS you mentioned.
The more I think about it the more I am tempted to get something over 24 inch just for the xbox and movies. I think if I sell my Dell 22 inch as well as my iMac and HD4850 I can get enough for a decent monitor and gfx card together.

I use the A02 revision of the 2709W and I play FPS games all the time (left 4 dead, battlefield 2 mainly). I have not once noticed input lag, it may well be present and it may well be higher than other monitors - but all I can tell you is that I don't notice it. This in combination with the fantastic 27in S-PVA panel makes it a fantastic monitor for gaming, movies and everyday use.

I would certainly recommend it.

As for the LG EsaT mentioned, I have read some reviews - and it looks like a great monitor. However, make absolutely sure you get the IPS version if you do buy it - as there are many TN versions banging about with a very similar product number.

If you just want to go with 24in- then the Dell U2410 is the monitor to get.

soon as i get some spare cash i want one of those dells it looks amazing and will be a good upgrade from my 2 year old 22 inch iiyama.
