well if you read it, it's actually because once the Czechs ratify it it would be EU law and the only way we could vote no would be to leave the EU.

The conservatives had hoped that labour would have been out of power before the Czechs had made thier desion so they could choose not to ratify it (assuming they got in).

but it looks like they won't be in power so they would be unable to change it once they got in as labour would have already signed up to it.

So there would be no treaty to vote one.

But don't let that stop you twisting it and counting on nobody reading the article ;)

This.

^^

Cameron's promise was conditional on the treaty remaining open for ratification. By the time the Tories are in power (if they actually get there) it'll be closed.

He hasn't broken his promise.

Exactly, I dont understand how it can be spun any other way, even by the most ardent wife beater wearing, amoeba brained BNP supporter, or tracksuit wearing, jeremy Kyle watching, benefits claiming, sofa bound labour voter.

He has always said, if its not ratified by the time they get into power, then we get a vote, If it is, we dont, because the only way to say no is to leave the EU.
And leaving the EU has never been something he has ever mentioned.

never underestimate mattheman.

And once its ratified... all hail dictator blair.
What happened to voting for presidents ? Yet again we will have an installed leader. Lets hope its not the same guy we only just got rid of.

I doubt Blair will be president, he has far too many enemies within the EU mostly stemming from the invasion of iraq.

I'm surprised that Cameron hasn't agreed to a vote considering it's a popular newspaper story. I guess his promises are just like any other opposition parties' agenda and that we'll soon see President Blair running everything with his mate Mandelson.

please tell me how he can vote on it if it's already been approved by labour?

Did you even read the article, or just the horribly twisted half truth mattheman presented and took his word for it?

He's not well known for his honesty ;)

+1

What I love about this is how GB has the audacity to question DC's "iron-clad" promise!!! Has he forgotten NuLab's promises. Tuition fees, borrowing would not go over spending and the Lisbon Treaty to name but a few......

EDIT - Expecting this article from e.g. The Guardian not The Telegraph (thought they were quite right wing)

Another mattheman thread you could dry out and fertilise the lawn with.

Cameron has not broken any promise. He cannot deliver any form of vote on it because one the Czechs ratify it it becomes EU law and this will be before a Conservative election victory, should it happen.

New Labour denied the people of the UK a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty and u-turned on a promise to give a referendum in the process.

This is why, along with the fact that I despise New labour and the mess this country is in as a result of their utterly failed policies, I fervently hope that any attempt to install President Blair falls flat on its face.

The thought of him and his tremendously arrogant wife gob swanning around Europe and the world, funded in part by the British taxpayer that he blatantly wiped his feet on for 10 years in power does not make me particularly mellow.

Ahh the joys of being told what we can and can't do by another country!
Just shows how little power the UK actually has to determine its own future.
