i know there was a graphic card before that worked if you flashed the higher spec cards bios on to it , it was an ati card i think , but would this work on a 5850 ? if not does anyone know where to get the asus 5850 bios from and the files to flash the card , under windows 7 ? thanks!

Could someone help me getting my BIOS flashed please? (Never tried GPU flashing before)

I've tried making a bootable USB drive using the HP Tool along with the Windows 98 boot up files. But when I check the contents of the drive, there is nothing there.

I added the atiflash tool and ASUS BIOS anyway, but it won't boot up at POST, and goes straight to Windows. And yes, I have configured the boot priority in the mobo BIOS. ;)

the boot files are hidden on the drive, its normal..

some flash sticks can't be made bootable.

i would double check the bios boot priority and the 1st,2nd,3rd boot settings.

Well the Asus is supposed to support Voltage Tweak, which should boost support, however if all of the cards are physically the same then this is just a BIOS setting.

As such should be able to use the Asus tools on the card as the Asus 58x0 cards seem especially rare at the moment.

For someone like myself that has an Asus ROG OC Station coming this week, and planning on getting an Asus Maximus Formula III board, after it turns up then a 58x0 that is seen as an Asus is quite important to have, if can't get an actual Asus card.

can some shed any light on why you would gpu flash please?
2 reasons really.

1. have a higher oc limit.
2. be able to use a all in one software to oc interest of 2 separate softwares..

e.g if a buy a sapphire 50850, theres a limit on how far u can oc which is 775/1125 and asus Voltage Tweak software won't work. but u flash the card with the asus 5850 unlocked bios, the card will think it's a asus 5850 card so asus Voltage Tweak software works also the oc limits is higher which is 1200/1400.

I thought the asus board had uprated VRMs as well. If that is the case, you might unlock the features, but it won't have the same overclocking potential.

Thanks for that suggestion - it reminded me that the USB flash drive isn't registered in the BIOS as a USB device, but as a hard drive. So I had to change the boot priority of specific hard drives to get it to boot.

All done now and looking good - first attempt at 950 on the core (on 2 5850s) worked great. :)
