Im getting idle temps between 38-43 and temps of 73-76 on load with prime95 on for 30-40 minutes using the pre-applied compound. Currently got my i7 clocked at just over 3.6Ghz (172x21). Are these temps about right and realistically will i be able to get them any better?

I am bit new to overclocking (especially i7 anyways) so any help will be much appreciated :)

Temps look ok to me, about the same as i get on my i5 load temps tho my idle temps are a bit lower at about 29 degrees.

Your temps are fine - for a moderate clock.

How is the H50 set up - have you got just the one fan or are you running the favoured push/pull configuration with two fans?

If you do only have the one fan attached i would consider setting up a push/pull configuration as this has proved to be very effective in bringing temps down.

Looks about right, mine are similar, but i'm in a warm room.

(175x21 @ 1.2V, 45C idle, 75C peak under 24h prime)

Yeh just the one the fan at the moment as an intake. Was looking to get a push/pull configuration setup but my 8pin cpu power cable seems to be in the way :S and having a fan on the outside of case isnt an option as the fan grill is bowed out. Im really looking for 3.8Ghz so im not sure if i should push it a lil further or not because of my temps at 3.6Ghz. What you reckon?

By the way my voltages are:

vcore: 1.3v
QPI/vtt: 1.275v
dram: 1.64v

I would try for 3.8GHz and see what transpires - anything ~80 degrees is nothing to worry about.

I would certainly consider getting the second fan - and then push for 4GHz - just cut the grill out(?) ;)

Good idea ;) Yeh i've pushed it up to 3.8Ghz now, increased the qpi to 1.3v and lowered my vcore a touch to 1.293v. Seems to be ok and my idle temps seem about +1 or maybe 2 degrees. Going to try for prime stable now and see what happens with my temps on load.

Well, given that this is being touted as the second coming of cooling, I personally found mine as disappointing as you're finding yours. They're actually not very good, but no-one wants to hear that...

Yeh im not exactly impressed either. One question though (and its a ridiculous nooby sort of question) which way does the fan have to be mounted for it to be an intake? Is it with the Corsair logo showing on the outside of the case or facing in towards the rad?

They are very good, but obviously being a 120mm radiator they aren't going to compete with proper watercooling or even 1/2 KG of copper fins with good airflow. At the risk of repeating myself, they are equivalent of good (but not highend) air cooling. The benefits are easy to fit, quiet, no huge weight on motherboard and RAM clearance.

Quiet isn't strictly true.

Unless you can have the pump running at a lower speed (mines on 12V) it buzzes faintly.

The rest is fine.

Also, how good it is over other cooling is highly dependant on your case and how the flow goes.

I have low restriction flow from my push pull at the front of my case (no HDD cage crap in the way) in a straight line through to the 12cm at the back and the 20cm blowing out upwards. Can't get better than that for an H50 setup.

I'm less convinced that having the intake at the back right next to a fan blowing in the opposite direction is as good. Or using the H50 as an exhaust .

Mine buzzes too, I cant hear it unless I stick my ear 6" from it.

The case dependent thing is an important point, my case is the Fortress; so I have a 120mm intake fan right next to the Corsair so can use it as an exhaust.

Well i'm an idiot. Mounted the corsair fan the wrong way and was just exhausting a bit of heat. Got the corsair fan on the inside of the case now set to intake and an old antec 120mm fan on the outside in push/pull. Temps are at around 32-38 at idle now with a 3.8Ghz clock, thats more like it! Just need to check my load temps to now to make absolutely sure, but looking good.

The above should be edited to read:

Think people forget that CPUs aren't equal and not always the fault of the cooling. For me the H50 has been amazing alongside my Q6600.

You banana :p

Good to see it's working now.

LOL extremely stupid mistake i know, ahwell all sorted now :) and so far my temps aren't seeing higher than 66-67 at load on prime instead of the 78 i was seeing earlier.

And Plec lol i think i'll sit at 3.8Ghz for now and just have a rest for a while ;) 4Ghz is certainly looking promising though with these temps at 3.8.
