Attempting to replace my cheapo Sony MDR-XD100s due to the cable coming loose from inside the right headphone.

Picked them up a few years ago and was suprised at how they sounded considering they were only £14.

Will mainly be used on the PC for watching films, listening to a bit of music (DnB, Dubstep, RnB and others).

Been looking at the reviews for the following:
Philips SHP2500
Sennheiser HD457
Sony MDR-XD200
Panasonic RP-HT275
Koss PortaPro

Any particular recommendations by you guys?

Seems we have a concensus, and i've seen only good things about their higher priced counterparts.

Any other ideas to throw in before i part with my cash?

Beep, one of the members here, bought some DR50's, he was very impressed with them if I recall.

The Goldring's are known for thier high treble sound. Some people think they sound shrill, others not.

What kind of sound device do you have, onboard or soundcard?

The Goldrings don't sound great at first, you need to burn them in. After that, they are nowhere near as shrill. This is the DR150s at least, but I imagine the lower models to act in the same way.

I've had both the DR100s and DR50s. Preferred the DR50s. They were cleaner sounding than the DR100s. The DR100s had 'more' bass and were warmer but they could lose it sometimes when things got complicated.

I've been a big fan of the Koss Porta Pro for more than 10 years... they're legendary.

Argh, there was a concensus!

It's crappy onboard that i just plug into the front panel for when i have to turn my speakers off, got a soundcard spare, but don't use it for that reason. Unless someone can find an adapter where i can plug both my speakers and headphones into the one output from the card ;)

Well front case audio connections are usually crap tbh. I tried it with my case audio connector connected to my Xonar DS, just to hear what it sounded like. I could hear a hiss which was being caused by the cheap cable picking interference from all the power gubbins. If you are to plug the headphones into the cases front audio socket, I would suggest getting a 3.5mm jack splitter as you mentioned. Either the solid adaptor or cable type. That way you can have the speakers and headphones connected to the rear audio, and you will avoid hissing.

I don't know if OCUK sell adaptors, if not then theer are plenty of etailers that sell them, also the popular auction site. ;)

I decided to get some Sennheiser PX100 to replace the IEM's that came with my Sony MP3 player, after long periods they hurt too much. PX100's are much more comfortable over long periods, and I must say they are excellent. Also sound great connected to my X-Fi. :D

A certain large retailer*its fun to do* has the Goldring DR50 for the bargain price of £14.99 delivered. I recommend the goldring brand and have really enjoyed my DR150's.

Ah yes, that would be the company based in Jersey. £15 is a steal though, for a decent pair of phones. Hell my Sony V500's cost £40-50 new, and they are rubbish.

The DR150's can be had for £41 if you look around if that is not too much outside your budget.

EDIT:

Sorry, ignore that, seems like they have gone up to £60 like everywhere else.
