So I was called into the office this morning...

I got into work this morning and got a phone call to go into the office (local phone system). So I went in and was told to take a seat, where the managers/owners said that with regret they had to let me go. The good news is I am still getting paid for doing nothing for the rest of this month, but of course no money will come in after that until I get another job.

So now I have no job. Luckily I'm still living at home, but I need to find something asap. May get a temporary job in town while I'm looking, but it sucks.

Of course this means that the Link to Insanity Game servers may not be running for much longer, but sadly, nothing lasts forever. :(

Of course it does mean I have more time to monitor forums that I help run (non-ocuk, though i can help there too if dons need sum1 ;)) but it's a shame.

Not really looking for advice, although it's welcome I just wanted to vent. :'(

Sounds pretty rough.

I'll be in the same situation after the end of the year although in my case by choice, my contract is up and I no longer want to work where I work.

Also don't be put off about finding a job by all the people ranting about there being none, there are ALWAYS jobs, its just these people don't want them. Admin and general office work is VERY easy to find.

Sorry to hear that Link. :(

Best advice I can give is get straight back on the horse, the longer you delay getting a job in the industry you're in (some kind of support?) the more difficult it is to regain a foothold in it.

If you're like me, you'll spend your time self-learning some new skills while you look for a job, get a temp job but keep plugging away with the permanent job search. This may be a good time to perhaps consider if the role you were in was the right one for you and maybe change some things around?

We'll always be here on the forums and join you in games of L4D/L4D2/TF2 etc to vent some anger at the noobs :)

Good luck in your search matey.

BTW - what job/role would you be looking for?

Unlucky Link, all the best in getting a new job quick.

I also have just been made redundant, so am in the same boat as you now. :(

Ah well, some pc bashing for a few days will be good..

Unlucky dude, that really sucks. Just make sure you dedicate as much time as possible to finding a new job. Luckily for you it's not a case of you have a wife and kids to feed with a mortgage to pay :)

I would advise that this is excellent news for November 17th, however, where you will effectivley be getting paid to play L4D2 when it's released :D

Sorry to hear this :( Worried about this happening to me with all the "restructuring" going on, although they don't pay me a lot yet, they will have to soon or get rid of my once I complete my apprenticeship, I'd be very easy to get rid of from their point of view although my dpmnt would suffer.

Get on JSA for the mean time if you can, I don't know the specifics.
don't be afraid to use it if you can, some poeple abuse it but there is no reason why it can't be used for its intended purpose when a decent person needs it.

Looking for work can be very depressing but stick on it and chin up!

Computer Forensics (says in my profile, better change it at some point :() is the field I'm in, but I'll be happy to go into computer support aswell, as I do enjoy it, hence being on the forums a lot.

And I am DEFINATELY up for drinking L4D Insanity Versus tonight. You don't all have to drink but I may be (no work tomorrow to worry about...)

@ Knubje: Good point re L4D2, but it'll be late anyway ;)

Thanks for the replies guys. :)

Bad luck dude, how much do your servers cost you per month? You seen to run quite a few.

Luckily, most of them share a dedi with Aekeron and that doesn't cost me too much so as long as I get the job within the next 4 months that'll be fine, just the ocuk3 (l4D1+2) that will need to be stopped soon.

@stretch. They are required to give me 4 weeks notice, which they have as they have given me the remaining 4 weeks off, most of it was owed to me in holiday anyway.
