I have read that there is currently a delay between having the service installed, and actually receiving Wireless N Router. Can anyone who has recently had it installed please confirm this?

Also there are reports of people being sent the incorrect G Router, again can anyone confirm if this is the case?

Im reading so much bad press im considering sticking with 20mb for now.

I called up asking for an upgrade and I'm waiting on the router and modem to arrive, it should b due this week. I've already got the old modem installed with my old router. I can tell you what I get exactly when the parcel arrives.

I'm not surprised if the installation service is delayed since the offer they have atm just went online 3 days ago, and its a pretty good offer. Maybe they're just busy.

Did they also charge you £50 odd quid for the upgrade? only reason I'm still on 20 meg is because of that charge. I find it a complete rip off considering how long a lot of people and myself have been with Virgin.

I doubt they will charge you. I called up virgin because I saw the deal online which was cheaper than the price we're already paying. They offered me a free upgrade from 10mb to 20mb for free and for the same price as 10mb and sending me a free modem and router. Call them and see what they say!

I have called them. but apparently we need a new modem and activation which costs £50 overall. I have declined for now

I got charged a total of £150. That was for service charge, installation and I believe the router as well. That was back in March. Not fussed now they have reduced it to £35 a month.

I was on 20Mb but wasn't sure if 50Mb was available in my area at the time.

Just try again, I refused to pay the instalation fee as it's just some tea guzzling engineer unscrewing a modem and putting another one on the line and in my case connecting it to my existing equipment as I don't use the provided router.

Certainly not £50 worth of labour.

Just call up a few times until you get a more friendly person on the other end who is prepared to negotiate what you want.

you managed to get the upgrade from 20 meg to 50 meg FOC?

My mrs brother upgraded from 20mb to 50mb. He's paying an extra £3 a month. He said he didn't need the extra speed but thought 'what the hell' :D

Everyone seems to be paying a different amount

He has the phone with the XL TV Package (everything apart from sports and movies)

I got the upgrade from 10mbit to 50mbit FOC, the router FOC and the install FOC as I told them there was no way in hell I would be paying £50 for someone to to a job that I can do myself in 60 seconds.

Took a couple of attempts but they gave in after enough pestering, and yes threatening to leave did also come into it.

Right thanks for that Wij, someone at VM is gonna get a nice call tonight. I also think its a complete rip for this charge to be in place, if i can install the equipment myself.

Basically the only "work" the engineer did was to verify the modem was connecting correctly and poke a few buttons on his PDA which I presume was to activate the profile on my account an to let VM know the job had been done.

It might take a while but don't be afraid to haggle with them and if it comes to it just threaten to leave.

What packages you have and how long you've been a customer can also influence things, though I was taking over the account from the previous tenant they had been customers for some 4 years. I was also upgrading the TV service at the same time.

i was on a triple XL deal at £57p/m, with 20mb broadband .Ive got rid of TV and XL phone package so will be £38 for 50mb and basic phone line. Plus £30 installation and £20 activation charge.

im paying £4 more a month. still had to pay the £50 install but this covers router and dongle which are £50 and £30 respectivly. the modem and install.

very strange, a few days ago i got a free updrage new modem and router from 10 to 20mb. They never said anything about charges. I saw at their website it even says free installation and router thats why i called them.

I initially got charged £50, but I argued the toss that the 5 mins to swap the modem and phone call to hit it I could have done myself. I got the £50 refunded.

The install engineer should should have the router with him.

thats right, i remember the sales person telling me that all i needed to do if follow the instructions and give them a call to activate it. like u said, something that anyone could do in a few mins. i've still to receive me stuff yet.

mines installed and working (using the supplied router) my old linksys could only give me 33mbs so its had to go.
