Diesel time

As is usually the case in the numerous digitalwolf new car threads you always seem to want a car that doesnt exist. You want something super fast with lazer sharp handling, comfort, looks stunning and costs £1 a month to run and does 100mpg. Something has to give, surely?

I mean your Clio 172 cost a whole £300 in repairs and you think thats big enough to mean it cost a lot to run? This is the sort of cost involved with any half decent car, you wont get away from it short of buying a Nissan?

I sold it because I got fed up with filling it up. 350 miles to a tank meant I was putting in over £200 a month in the tank. I found myself driving like a granny to try and keep the mpg decent. A hot hatch, which hardly ever saw the red line due to me trying to save fuel.

I have always said if I was going diesel it would be a 330d sport but they are still going for decent money.

I get about 45-48mpg out of the 306 which is fine, because i'm not paying 110.9 a litre like the Clio.

Forget a 330d Sport, the running costs will annoy you.

I hear they average about 40mpg?

I'm looking for around 50mpg although I don't go over 50-60mph most of the time.

5 doors is a must this time round, sick of getting out of the car to let people in and out.

Do not confuse fuel bill with running costs.

Fuel is not the only cost associated with running a car. You will require tyres @ £550 a set. An Inspection II service is more than £300. Repairs, if required (Which they will be on a £5k example, which is going to be ropey at best) will be expensive. Most at this budget will require a suspension refresh.

A BMW is not the answer to your question.

When you put it like that then a BMW would most probably be bad news for £5k.

So it's a VAG 1.9 130 or 150.

I like the Leon TDi 150's but they are also quite ropey for £5,000.

A3 1.9 TDi Quattro or a Fabia vRS then.

All I have to add is ROFLMAO

I told you to buy a 306 at the start of the year because it fit most of your criteria, the most important thing which was being CHEAP since you dont want to spend 10 pence on your car.

And you laughed at me.

I dont think it really matters what we write here, you will do whatever the heck you want anyway even if it makes no sense at all.

Hell, go to carcraft, I heard they do good LPG converted cars that might suit you.

Berger, I want something well built thats refined.

306's are getting on a bit now. The only reason why I currently own a 1.9 DT is because they are pretty much bomb proof engine wise and it was cheap as chips to buy.

Exactly, every 3 months we get a what car thread, everyone wastes time giving him advice, he ignores everyone and buys something totally stupid then we repeat the whole thing again 3 months later when he's realised he bought something stupid and subsequently sold it.
