5850 or crossfire 4870s?

New i7 build due, and as above, in the new build a 5850 or two 4870s in crossfire? Seeing as they both come to £210 (roughly).

I'm guessing DX11 will give me big benefits though...

I would go for the 5850. If you game at 1680x1050 or even 1920x1080, the single 5850 will be able to handle it no probs. Also, you can add a second 1 down the line.

Don't get me wrong, the 4870's are cracking cards but old tech.

I 2nd the 5850. get a bit from selling your 4870 too. Don't forget eyefinity possibilities and as mentioned above, corssfiring 2 5850's at a later date.

Cool. I'm selling this rig in January, hopefully for around the £650 mark. Then starting a spec again for an i7, 5850 and Windows 7 rig. Then I'll be set for the future - as if thats ever gonna happen! I will be gaming at either 1920x1080 or 1680x1050.

But it will have a fresh install of Windows 7, a brand new OCZ 600W PSU and a brand new 320GB HDD. The components that will stay in there (Processor, Mobo, RAM, GPU) are only like 6 months old.

And also, will DX11 be ahuge leap from DX10 interms of graphics? Or just performance?

Really?! Oh dear...I thought I'd get more seeing as I sold a Dell PC with a 2.66ghz dual core, 3gb 667mhz ram and Radeon HD2400 for £250 only 7 months ago. I was expecting £500 as a minimum

Even with a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium??

You may get more for it, but I would consider £300 a reasonable price even with Windows 7.

I dont know what's the point in getting Windows 7 Home Premium for it but if it is a brand new boxed then add it to the total price... I'd say about 400-450 tops (with OS). If you're really lucky. Oh, and hurry up, the value will be going down constantly

edit: I've just done some more calculations. The rig you wanna sell is worth 520 quid brand new. The cost of retail version of Windows 7 is about 70. If it's OEM then even less. Add it up and times by 0.7 or so. £400 is what you should aim at. Good luck

I just priced up your specs quickly on Google and could buy it brand new for £575 (without really searching for the cheapest prices) excluding Windows 7 Home Premium, which is worth about £30 new and boxed.

How did you manage to find Windows 7 Home Premium for £30 "new and boxed"? That's quite impressive as only keys to Home Premium are being sold at this price. I dont think you can find a non-upgrade version for less than 70 quid

Well, not quite as you could be prosecuted for handling stolen goods and end up with a criminal record, but you have a point.
