Hello guys,

i'm planing to buy new pc on friday (i7 920), and now i can't decide what GPU i should buy, it's so hard to get anything from 58xx series, on the other hand i could buy 5770, but buying it just doesn't makes any sense, cause to get performance that 5850 gives i'll need 5770 in CF. I could wait for some time now, till 58xx series wouldn't be such a rare thing.

I was considering about buying 3850x2 :D cause it costs only 55quid on OCUK , than thought maybe i should get 4770.

It would be nice to get any advices what to do, cause i'm confused more than ever now :/

If your looking for a graphics card to go with a core i7 build you really need a high end card - 3850X2/4770 simply won't do the rest of the build justice. I would recommend a 5850 if you can wait for one (I'm in this boat atm, it's even worse with a P55 as theres no integrated graphics at all), if not you can choose from a 4870x2 - similar performance to the 5850 but much higher power draw (it's Dual-GPU), both the 4890 (Vapor-X would be recommended) and the 260 are also options.

They perform at a similar standard, though I'd say the 4890 edges it. The real issue is that none of the above cards have DX11 support, yes there are no (few) games out that make use of it now but in 12 months+ it'll become mainstream and you'll be losing out. If your looking to use this new build for 2 years+ without upgrading the GPU you will definetly be needing the DX11 support.

I know that buying 3850x2/4770 is ridiculous but on the other hand, i don't want to spend lots of money now, and in 2 or 3 months spend another 200 or 300 quid. I know that there isn't so much DX11 games just yet, but buying thing like 4890 for 150 when you can get 5850 for 220. That's why i'm having this headache. I think I'll be getting 4850 1gb, later on i will sell it to my bro, than i'll add some more money and will buy 58xx...

Pre-order a 5850 or 5870 card and use any old GPU card in it till the 5850/5870 arrives ;)

As there no point in throwing lots of money at GPU cards you don't want..

I think it would be foolish to spend £150 on a 4890, but considering that you can pick one up now for £135, that's nearing a £100 difference between the two cards, the 4890 looks more appealing.

If i had old GPU :/ i was using laptop for 2years, and now i need to build everything from scratch. I think i'll stick to my earlier decision, i'll get 4850 (later will give to my bro, so he can CF, he already owns one), and will pre-order something from 58xx :)

Anyway, thx guys :)
