A bit more in line with competitors at last...!!! Pity I had to go elsewhere for this a couple of weeks ago though....

Great piece of kit for htpc....

Typical about the new model, but then I dont really need all the extras.. but definately enhances the product.... Powered eSata.. that would definately be useful, been waiting for that to emerge after reading about it a year or so ago....

What is the DVD drive? how much room is there for a bigger hard drive?

It states 1080P but at what frame rates?

Standard slim dvdrw drive, not a bluray, if thats what you mean, although there is one availabe with bluray for more dosh...

You can always swap the hard disk for another one.. but I believe the new model has space for 2 hdd...

About frame rates, i may be wrong, but isnt that goverend by the source material and the display?? afterall, ive never seen a dvd/blue ray player mention frame rates..???? Ive watched various 1080p mkv files, with the cpu never going more that 15%, stutter free.. Im made up with mine...

The new model:

Yeah, Blu Ray videos or your source of choice will have a standardised frame rate, but what I think he meant was "is this thing actually capable of reaching that rate, or will it play as a 2-3 FPS slideshow?"

I think previous reviews have ION setups handling 1080p with ease and the right software, can't think why this would be different.

EDIT: one review said
"The ASRock ION 330-BD nettop had no issues at all playing back 1080p HD content and it did it amazingly well for a system this size. Compared to the AMD HTPC, it actually showed better results in the CPU usage department, which means ION is doing its job very well here indeed.

Playback was silky smooth with no missed frames, overall very impressive. "

That's for the version with a Blu Ray drive and tested playing Blu Ray, so if it can handle that it should be fine.
