Seven shot dead at US Army base in Texas!

FORT HOOD
Largest US base in the world
Home to about 40,000 personnel
Built in 1942
Focus for anti-war protesters
Includes two museums and a lake

Probably got bored in the museum

40,000 troops, so that was 39999 against 1 and they only managed to wound him? did the level the base in the process...

the fact that this guy had an ethnic name was probably going to be bad enough once the press had got hold of it, but now its come out he's also muslim it will go from being an army shrink who had obviously heard one too many shell shock stories and panicking about starting his own when he his deployed and just losing it to a clear jihadi sympathising infiltration of the highest order.

This is going to be ridiculous how far they'll twist this story. If the guys name was Mark Johnson it would just be another Columbine-esque incident where the right things are looked at rather than muslim bashing hate fest where any muslim doing anything remotely bad suddenly is because that person is soley define by their religion.

You guys manage to read a hell of a lot into a tiny fragment of news with just a few snippets of facts.

I thought it was in the American constitution, The right to go Postal ?

Just think, a few hundred years ago, people would be saying the same things about the Christians*, they weren't whiter than white with their Holy crusades and such.

Until the reason comes out I refuse to speculate on this.

*Granted, you were lucky to hear about stuff from a few miles away then, but still.

Oh dear. "muzzie"

This forum really is full of racists :/

And hes not a terrorist just some guy who lost his mind.

At least one Muslim on this forum refers to himself as a muzzie, so calm down.

I bet US and UK soldiers are nervous of having Muslims within their ranks and clearly with good reason.

Shooter is still alive:

Authorities said immediately after the shootings that they had killed the suspected shooter, but later in the evening they recanted and said that he was alive and in stable condition at a hospital, watched by a guard.

"His death is not imminent," said Lt. Gen. Bob Cone at Fort Hood. He offered little explanation for the mistake, other than to say there was confusion at the hospital.

(Source).

If I remember right both the US Army and the state of Texas have the death penalty. Wonder if he'll get it.

I hope for the sake of muslims living in America that he turns out to just be a mental case and not a radical.

But America has invaded two Muslim countries, fiddled with several more, has countless muslim radicals stating America is evil and even more moderate muslims wondering wtf America has got against them.

Do you think the idea that he was attacking America on behalf of Muslims everywhere isn't possible and should not even be thought lest mentioned?

I know there will be a lot of American soldiers looking very carefully at any Muslims in their units, no matter what you or I say.

well by all accounts he was trying his damndest to get out of the army, hiring lawyers etc I guess he just flipped out as he was pushed closer and closer to being sent away. Pressure and stress.

"his death is not iminent"

Yeah ok.

they need to find out why he was doing this... because they wanted to send him to iraq, or because he couldnt handle the army.

i never seem to recall british soldiers going looney and shooting ppl up to avoid going to ireland.

Or because he was a worthless mentalist?

After counselling traumatised vets, I'm sure the first outlet you think of is to slaughter as many of them as possible!

And I would imagine it's unlikely that a base psychiatrist would see ever see action.

Just heard my mum may have cancer, feeling stressed... better blow my family away then!

Luckily getting ammo and guns together in the same place at the same time outside of a conflict zone in the British army is (or at least was) difficult without the right paperwork and checks.

In the 70s when I lived in Gütersloh, Germany (My father was Royal Artillery) I can remember 2 hostage sieges in the space of a 3 months in our block of flats alone because of squaddies who'd flipped because a prospective tour in Northern Ireland. So it does happen.

I'm not saying its impossible he was a radical but it doesnt seem likely does it, gain your doctorate, sign upto the army, give years of service all for the opportunity to go mental with a couple of handguns? He could have done that third day into basic training if he wanted to.

People in this thread have already referred to him as a terrorist (cue pedants sayin he caused terror and therefore is a "terrorist", not what I mean and you know it) and all thats been released is his name and a picture, no reports of him screamin death to the west etc. yet people already jump to the assumption that he was a terrorist.

And thats coming from British people who are probably a lot more culturally aware than the average red neck driving a pick up in texas who assumes anyone with skin darker than a pale beige and a moustache/turban has a bomb strapped to them.

All I'm saying is just because this guy is muslim it becomes about him possibly being a terrorist, instead of it being about the victims, which would be if the guy was white, they'd say "yeah he was unhinged, went overboard we'll revamp the processes that are sposed to catch these" and that'd be it, then the victims would get their respects paid etc.

Now its just gonna crank up the level of racial prejudice to another level.

If a person considers deployment to be a fate worse than death — possibly caused in part by ideological or religious concerns — what is there to prevent them from killing themselves and, to make as big a statement as possible, those around them?
