AMD Phenom II X4 965 'Black Edition' Quad Core CPU New 125w Model - HDZ965FBGMBOX

checking the reviews I can see why the price of the i5 hasn't really dropped since launch, no need to price it lower than the 965BE.

hmmm i agree 1.5v is way out of spec.

amd says Voltages 0.825-1.40V

http://products.amd.com/en-us/Deskt...45+nm+SOI&f8=&f9=4000&f10=False&f11=&f12=True

965 C2 is

Voltages 0.850-1.425V

http://products.amd.com/en-us/Deskt...f4=512&f5=&f6=&f7=&f8=&f9=&f10=&f11=&f12=True

i wonder why they lowered the voltage range slighty on the C3

Those are just the stock voltages. The general consensus is that it's safe to go up to 1.55v. I've read of some pople going past 1.6v but that's pushing it a bit for me, even though my temps are safe. :P

well amd told me that its fine to up the voltage between the range..

e.g a 955 as a range of 0.875-1.5V

also like my 720, stock voltage is 1.25v but amd says its ok to up it anywhere between 0.850-1.425V

Are these just handpicked 140W chips running on lower voltage or is there more to it?

The revised Phenom II X4 965 BE processor has not only a much better TDP (peak Wattage at 125W coming down from 140W) but overall much better power management thanks to the fact that hardware C1E is now implemented in the CPU, allowing the processor to throttle down. And that makes it an interesting change as it does allow for faster switching of power states, making it more efficient. Typically with such a feature enforced it could mean lower performance a little, but... with a proper BIOS AMD claims there's no real impact on performance -- and after testing it we concur.

Another, and thus third change, is what AMD calls “Heavy” load support for DDR3-1333. With proper BIOS implementation, the memory controller will now support up to 4x DDR3 DIMMs at 1333MHz which apparently was an issue on the last revision.

I'm not sure what the appeal of the new PhII 965BE is when you can pay less for this?

Intel Core i5 750

£135.99 inc *This Week Only*

I'm expecting someone to have a grumble at me but if anyone would care to enlighten me I would be grateful as I appear to be missing something! :D

Fall 2009
AMD = Budget Win, High End Fail
INTEL = High End Win, Budget Fail

Hmmm, if you could explain how i can fit a Intel chip on an AM2+ board, id appreciate it....thnx..:p
Sure no problem, first you buy a LGA1136 motherboard and chip, install your system and then sell your older Socket AM2+ mobo and chip @ OcUK MM or auction? :)

Since motherboards cost a lot more, there's practically no upgrade path and it's stock clock is far lower.

I don't think so Superewza, there are several sub £100 LGA1156 boards and it seems a decent AM3 board costs approx £100 to £130, theres nothing in it?

I'm just looking for some sense thats all, if peeps love AMD and hate Intel I'm not gonna comment further on that but If peeps are looking to get a better return for their investment surely high end AM3 is not the way to go?

Mines just come, will slap it in soon !
