Will Orange give me a 3G sim?

Hi. I've taken out a 2 year Orange contract. I'm one month into that contract. I got a Blackberry 8900 from Orange, but now I'm thinking I've made a mistake and want a HTC Hero. Basically I'm going to sell the phone and get a Hero, but I need a 3G sim as the 8900 is EDGE/2G only.

If I ring up will I be able to get a 3G sim off Orange? Will they charge me? Also, If I get my Hero I'll want to move call plans from Panther to Dolphin. Is there a charge involved in this?

Thanks.

Really? I only got it a month ago. Will you still get a 3G enabled sim on a 2G contract phone?

Do you think I'd have any chance asking Orange to swap the 8900 for a Hero? Anyone know what number I'd ring to speak to someone (preferably in this country) to ask about this?

Thanks.

I imagine all their sims are 3G now whether you have a 2G phone or not.

If your into a month then highly doubt they will change the phone for you now...so your best bet is to try and sell the phone to someone then convince Orange to sell you the Hero.

Also changing your tariff...good luck with that;)...you might get lucky but most networks will say you can only change after a set amount of months have lapsed.

Dont know which number you need to ring but ringing customer services is probably your best option.

Alright spawn.

I rang up and explained the situation. I can't swap it but anyway I knew there was like a 0.01% chance of getting it swapped over. They told me I had a 3G sim, so I've managed to bag an Orange locked Hero off ebay for a good price. I'm just going to sell the 8900 on. They told me they don't sell Hero's sim free and just to get one from somewhere else (which I have). Hopefully I won't be £££ down as I would have had to pay £50 for the Hero instead of the 8900 which was free. I'll just have to change my talk plan when I get the Hero.

I just want to change from Panther to Dolphin. Rang up this afternoon and the guy said that was perfectly fine and will start from the next monthly billing date.

sign up to check your own bills online as he shouldt of changed it for you part of you T&C, fair play to you if he did Good Luck.

No I want to stay on the same price just a different animal tariff.

I've got another question. Got a Blackberry 8900 on a 2 year contract. After a month found out It wasn't really the phone for me great as it was. Now can I sell the phone on to someone with another Orange sim card? I've been googling about this and found that some carriers don't allow you to sell the phone within the first 3 months, they can blacklist it. Does anyone know if this applies to Orange?

Ive had no problems selling a phone within the first 6 mths...i did it earlier this yr when i got a tmobile branded Bold, unlocked it and sold it for £350 and never heard anything back from the guy who bought it...spoke to tmobile and they said its perfectly fine as i own the phone.

Same with Voda, trying to sell my HTC Magic phone that ive had since May of this yr and voda have said they have no problem with me selling it.

I imagine Orange would be the same, if they arent then unlucky for you....but if you can then id unlock it as it they tend to get a bit more price wise when unlocked.

Hi Spawn. Yeah I thought that might be the case. I was reading some stuff off google about phones being blacklisted and such, but I just got an email from the girl that sorted my contract out and he said that my BB is fine to work with any Orange sim.

About unlocking, yeah I'd probably get a better price, I'll just advertise it as Orange locked for the time being and if I don't get any bites might look into unlocking it.

I was told by Orange I could use my current sim in a HTC Hero and get 3G. Excellent I thought. This was about a week ago. Bought a HTC Hero as I didn't really want the 8900 anymore. Put my sim card in - only 2G signal.

So I've rang up today asking for a 3G sim explaining the situation and they have refused. Idiots. They have told me its 'impossible' as when I got the contract they issued me with a 2G sim and they can't issue another sim, well they can issue me another sim they say but it will still be 2G only.

What a load of tripe. How can they do this? Surely they can just send me another sim and switch my account to the new sim surely?

So I have to stick with this 2G sim for two years!! What a joke.

I'm complaining about this. I'm writing a letter to Orange. I'm contacting the Telecommunications Ombudsman too.

Is your hero orange branded?? or another network branded model...because i know on my HTC Magic google phone i could only get 3G if i used a voda sim card...so if your trying to use it with another network you might need to get their APN settings in order for it to work.

As for them refusing you a 3G sim...i find that pretty hard to believe as it doesnt really make a difference whether the sim is 3G or not...all new sims should be 3G enabled. Either that or they just dont like you lol.

Id just ring up again and ask to speak to a supervisor and see if they can help you...the csr's are next to useless and that goes for every network...not just orange.

Hi Spawn.

Yes my hero is Orange branded.

Well I spoke to a rather bubbly female Orange operator on saturday night and it seemed she was going to to ring my local Orange store and sort something out because the system wouldn't let her issue a 3G sim card it was only allowing a 2G one. She was going to ring me next day after speaking to the store sunday morning. I received no phone call on Sunday from Orange.

When ringing this evening I spoke to an Indian call centre but was then put through to a British guy, who then spoke to someone else for 5 minutes while I was on hold. I suppose I could try ringing again and speak to a supervisor, or write a letter of complaint.

It seems ludicrous that I'm only months into a £25 a month two year contract and they won't upgrade my sim for me, it must be possible. I don't even mind paying for the admin costs of upgrading the sim.

im a little confused mate but saying that i have not worked on front line for many years. The sim card that came in it should be a 3G as far as i know. Try calling 150 from your handset and choosing handset faults play it dumb and say you cant get your 3g to work see if they can help. If you do need a new sim card and are happy to pay i think there approx £17.50 let us know how you get on
