I fail to see how you'd expect anything more from a 2.8 V6 Turbo with 300bhp.

Car magazine reported an average of around 24mpg for their long term 335i

Thats a 3.0 Straight 6 twin turbo. Mine is a 2.8 V6 twin scroll turbo. So similar effect but without two turbos

So its exactly what you'd expect from a car of this size and engine ?

Both you and they must drive harder than i would is all i can assume. I took a 335i out yonks ago when they were first released, and it was a lot better than that.

22MPG seems pretty bad to me when it matches owners reports from people with cars with engines literally twice the size and power as yours.
 
But power and engine capacity are only a small factor in fuel economy.

Things like aerodynamic drag, tyres, transmission losses, weight, unsprung and rotating mass all play a part, too.

Then lets not forget, you're comparing near super cars with a Vauxhall Vectra. For us folk that have to drive mediocre performance cars, 22MPG for a car the size and power Vectra VXR seems quite reasonable.

My 200 and something bhp ACS 325 achieved only around 20MPG on average, and my 2.9 VR6 Corrado achieved anywhere between 17-24MPG. Both of those have upto a third less power than the Vectra, and weigh less, too.

i think it depends on usage patterns

I can get 30mpg average out of mine if i sat wafting up and down the motorway all day. With your job and car would probably suggest you do a lot of. Hence why you get good mpg.

Sitting in leeds city centre rush hour traffic doing start/stop all the time, and then with a bit of spirted driving once out of the city centre on the way home, cant be good for your mpg

I shouldnt imagine a CL600 would return 18mpg in city centre rush hour !
 
It doesn't help that the whole Island is pretty much town driving, there is no where to reach and maintain a steady "pottering" speed for more than about a mile, but no, it wasn't broken.

Sadly I am. Once I sat down and looked at my bank statements and calculated how much I was spending I had to sell it. Sadly 1 month after selling I moved to manager of the Stratford store, so I could've kept it as my mileage would've been dramatically cut.

My CTR regulary got 200 miles to ~45l of fuel, but the only problem there was my right foot. I could get 40 extra miles with BP Ultimate though.
 
I concur on the don't use BP Ultimate! V-Power all the way, cheaper, slightly better economy, and apparently, according to all the mappers, a much much better fuel.

For what it's worth, I'll get 280-300 on mixed driving - but that's taking it right into the light, normally putting in around 55litres each time. Baring in mind it's a second car, most the time is for fun, it's not bad I don't think.

If you get it mapped you will get better fuel economy off boost due to the better mapping :)

Firstly, CL600....do it! Secondly, 18.5mpg, I thought it might be around that sort of figure. The S55 gets around about 23mpg over the long term, town driving around 16mpg.

BP is the closest and most convenient station near me, I will however now only use V-Power going by the comments.

Who do you think I should go to for getting a new map/chip? I only want the best and am willing to travel to get it done if its worth it.

I would personally recommend Bob Rawle of BRDevelopments. He is based in Swindon, and does all his mapping on a weekend from his house. He can do ECUtek mapping which is just remapping of the standard ECU. Cost is about 350 for the software license, and then about 300 for the mapping or something like that. Works out around something over £600. People use this mapping for any sorts of power so is very capable.

Or you can get a standalone ECU called the Simtek which everyone is raving about at the moment, would cost £1050 + Vat though, and is better to map than the standard ECU, with higher resolution maps, switchable maps, and at an additional cost, antilag and launch control :D

If you're just going to put and exhaust, then just get an ECUtek remap, more than capable of the job. However if/when you get it mapped, make sure that whatever fuel you get it mapped on, you stick to! Because there really is quite the difference in the fuels and how they combust.

Imo / experience i would not pay £600+ for ecutek unlock (ECU unlock), think its a rip off! Best off getting an Open source map to suit mods ... i got it done for £300 and he put launch control on too ;) - Mapped by Andrew Carr ... this guy really knows his stuff and can travel to you. He is putting a valet mode on too which when you press a hidden button you cannot take the car over say 3k revs (what ever you wonna set it at), so if you leave your car at a garage they aint gonna thrash it or if someone nicks it they aint gonna get far :D;)
 
Very good looking car, it's what I want next, that shape too. All depends on me being able to save a bit of cash tho, not looked into it properly yet as I know it'll still be a year or so away.

I can't recall being anywhere in the UK and finding that the local BP is cheaper than the rest (apart from Total maybe, who seem to charge silly money)
 
Texaco is the worst around here. Dingy, old, tatty forecourts, no super unleaded and petrol prices 5p a litre more than everyone else even when they are opposite a cheaper petrol station.

The one on Embankment Road in Plymouth is opposite a Sainsburys and is usually 5p a litre more expensive.

Sometimes, though, they pricematch Sainsburys and put a huge banner up saying LOOK AT OUR PRICES

I use that one quite a lot when I'm in Plymouth - normally because I need to fill up before leaving and it just doesn't seem worth my time going all the way round the roundabout and queueing for Sainsburys.

I live just across the road from a Tesco Esso station - Esso fuel and Tesco prices, win win :) No clubcard points though :(
 
Very nice car m8, congrats.

I was seriously considering selling my bike and going for one of these as a weekend toy but I just could not live with/afford the fuel cost on it.

Ahh well, back to praying for good weather :)
