**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

Really getting into it now, what a game :)

Playing on Normal and it's probably about right, did the first ogre real easy, not sure what all the fuss was about but getting into some hard battles now.

hmmm, have not died yet and do not think it is that hard on normal so far tbh. I tend to pause loads though and have used the party tactics a lot.

Just about to do this part, so will report back as to whether I get my first party wipe doing it.

well, yup got a party wipe. However not at the last guy, just when there were lots of Darkspawn spread out and we got flanked as well.

However when I had a second crack at it, it went fine, so it is certainly not 'that' hard. Plus when you do get wiped, it forces you to have a closer look at your party and their skills so you can perform better. I found that anyway.

So far - awesome game and awesome story. Lovin it!

I had a half day at work today so i could pick this up as I'd been looking forward to playing it for months. Just got the game installed when my 8800gtx popped  I now have to run in safe mode to boot to windows and have red lines going across the screen! I did order a gigabyte 260gtx from overclockers which is due to arrive tomorrow but I want to play it now!!!:D

I want command queuing badly, when I pause and issue a command nothing gets queued up you have to do it in real time it would seem.

Finding it quite difficult to get in to without being able to queue up orders.

Yeah thats something of a dissapointment, you can only give one action, then once its done you have to pause and set another. Although I've noticed that as a Ranger/Archer, most of my abilities are passive or a "state" - fewer are actually "activated".

I was also dissapointed that there isn't a Paladin class. I do feel that, compared to the HUGE amount of classes in BG2, DA is a bit more restrictive in choice.

Getting a bit hacked off at the moment, fighting beside a npc who keeps casting bloody fireball and he wipes out my whole team, ud think that the AI would see firendlies near by and not cast a AOE spell.

Am i being silly or si there a way to stop the AI making your party run off as soon as you select another member?

Had my 2 archers waiting In a corridor pointing at the door to start shooting things in the toher room, and my mage in front ready to burn anything that came through.

selected mage to get ready with the skill and both my archers decided to run through the door into the trap and die horribly :/

I want AI to chose to attack and all but not to chose movement.

You can set in tactics to choose to attack at range and attack with a ranged weapon, but it can still decide to run in and stand next to people to attack.

Personally I'm not loving it, the intro second time round is boring. I'm finding the "ranger" or just a rogue going for archery as incredibly underpowered, i get 1-2 shots then they'll be on top of me and frankly I do way more damage with completely unskilled/unspecced dual weild. I already stopped playing as a basic shield/weapon guy as again, due to the way skills are selected it feels like you can only really specialize in one pool. By the time I got a companian who was already specced same as me it felt "too late" to go for a more dps spec, which is already very very irritating.

The lack of speech for your character is doing my head in, and the options in some conversations are poor at best.

I was really just hoping for a touch less man management for combat and more skills plus staying in your main character more as I find that a lot more fun.

At this point on my main I have no idea if I should sell the Blood armour, which will give you way more money than you should have at this point, or if I'll be able to wear it at any stage of the game. This is really why I dislike DLC/bonus items that massively alter gameplay, too powerful early on, or sell for ridiculous money early on you shouldn't have.

without reading most of the thread - why is there such a massive difference in filesize between the EA and Steam versions of the game? what does Steam have extra?

for some reason I thought steam's version had more content or something but that doesn't make sense - that's quite the compression EA has going on there. Didn't know steam doesn't compress downloads.

Thanks :)

It's a redemption key for some Steam-only items. Use the redeem link in the downloadable content menu and register it. The items should then download.

I'm waiting for The Stone Prisoner and Wardens Keep and I'm not very patient *twiddles thumbs*.

I can't defeat the first ogre :( I'm so ashamed...

EDIT: Ok, done it, but took me a ridiculous amount of attempts.

I'm a bit puzzled as to where and when quests start and finish - I stayed out in the wilds completing the main and 2 side quests - came back to camp and spoke to the main quest giver (as there was no indication as to where I completed the other two) and before I knew it I was off to the next part of the main storyline!?!?!

All I was doing was wandering around trying to find the side quest peeps and i stumbled into the loading screen for the next section without even realising it!! - Very annoying as I wanted to complete the side quests too and they have now vanished from my journal and I assume I cant now do them!!

I am absolutely loving this game. Without spoiling anything I'm doing the various tasks within Redridge at the moment.

Redcliffe? I thought Redridge too originally - that was a zone in WoW :p.

BTW - without spoiling anything - the dream sequence in Redcliffe that youre coming too is an incredible piece of story telling.
