My new car.

Texaco is the worst around here. Dingy, old, tatty forecourts, no super unleaded and petrol prices 5p a litre more than everyone else even when they are opposite a cheaper petrol station.

The one on Embankment Road in Plymouth is opposite a Sainsburys and is usually 5p a litre more expensive.

Sometimes, though, they pricematch Sainsburys and put a huge banner up saying LOOK AT OUR PRICES

I greet the cashier with "brap" - gets me a few pee off.

I was watching 5th Gear the other day (repeat on dave) and they did a test on fuels:

Results:

(BHP)

------------------CLIO------Golf------Impreza-------(impreza's torque)
Supermarket 95-----81-------172-------235--------------232
Ultimate------------81-------174-------248--------------248
Optimax------------81-------177-------249--------------258

So not much difference on the clio or golf but quite a bit on the impreza :D

I use that one quite a lot when I'm in Plymouth - normally because I need to fill up before leaving and it just doesn't seem worth my time going all the way round the roundabout and queueing for Sainsburys.

Use Shell Carew on the A38 instead. Better fuel and no mickey-taking. Don't encourage that rubbish Texaco :p

Is the quality between supermarket petrol and branded petrol the same? I was always under the illusion supermarket petrol is "watered down" hence a cheaper price. I understand that's quite a statement to make which is why I want to get it straightened out.

its not watered down as such

its just not as clean and is missing key additives that can help clean your engine.

Key example is that supermarket petrol is kept in containers at refineries that was washed with 2nd hand detergents. They were used to clean something that was full of sand. Given a quick clean then used again in the petrol tanks.

Said petrol then went out to tesco and morrison forecourts and broke a whole load of cars o2 sensors due to the high sillicon deposits in it from the re-used detergents.

Is that not the one with the "brown trouser" slip road back onto the A38?

I don't know how much truth there is in it, but one of the girls at a Shell I use often told me that once a week the manager of the BP about 1/2 a mile away phones them to ask what their prices are that week. He then sets his a little higher.
If that's true then I just don't get it at all, but then again it IS always more expensive and their forecourt always has people filling up on it.

Usually people with fuel cards though who don't pay advertised prices - they pay the price set by the fuel card company irrespective of the garage they use?

Probably not far off the truth, when I worked for Texaco we had to phone/drive round the local garages to see what they were selling at quite regularly. We then used to set ours a shade lower and get bollocked by Texaco for it.

Absolutely. When you use a fuel card you pay the price that was negotiated by your company.

I'm realising the world is a crazier place than I first thought.

There is another Texaco Garage a junction further down the A38. Opposite is a Jet.

They are both easily accessible if you are heading towards the A38 and are in full view of each other.

Jet is always 2-3p a litre cheaper

I think it shows that the majority of people will put price second to convenience, unless the difference is more than minute.
Me? I fill at the cheapest Shell I know of, but I drive past it everyday anyway so I'm not going out of my way to do so.

You have to drive past the Jet Station to get to the Texaco one on your way to the A38. It's that close.

I also prefer Shell - perceived (As after all none of us really know how good fuel is do we?) quality products and they are always amongst the cheapest in the area. Generally the forecourts are of a high standard as well.

Sometimes, they even offer me the opportunity to purchase discounted plastic Ferrari's.

The Fuel card point is probably half of it, in my previous job, I had a Texaco fuel card, now, as it happens, Texaco are probably the most expensive station here, but we paid no where near that, but instead a nationwide average price, over a select few stations. I'm certain it was a good 8p cheaper.

Bit of an update guys.

Had the car for a good while now and am still grinning from ear to ear, even more so after I fitted the new exhaust.

So that was the first mod, changing the existing Prodrive exhaust for a Blitz Nur Spec R, it really does sound like thunder now whereas before it was quite pansy in all honesty.

Arrival of the Nur Spec R

Up on the ramps at a local place, only charged £50 for fitting and took approx 30 mins

The size suits the car to a tee and looks lovely when polished up

Before and After Video (yes it was warmed up!)

Next mod was changing the huge front numberplate for something a bit more subtle.

After
scoob42.jpg

Then I went a bit gay and bought a pink front badge..

Then a couple more....

Leaving the engine bay a bit more colourful:p

Then arrived my front splitter....

Fitted and transforms the front of the car

Front of car before minus the badge, plate and splitter

And after

Next on the list is

+ Detango the front lights
+ Polish the gearknob
+ Mop the entire car
+ Remove car park dents left from previous owner
+ Spray various black plastic engine bits in World Rally Blue
+ Yellow plastic parts in engine to be turned pink

Best thing about all the above is that it won't cost a penny as it will all be done at home:D
