Well after realising i probably wont get a daihatsu charade gtti since there's not many around and most are sheds. I'm wondering what other cars that are quite reliable and reasonably quick in insurance group 11 or maybe 12. Bear in mind I'm not willing to pay more than 2k on a car that I'm only insuring tpf&t. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Also if it has a turbo i will <3 you XD you can check insurance groups here

Ive been looking all day so far and have found nothing of comparable goodness to a gtti that's why I've come here :P

Not sure what insurance group it is, but a 1.7 VCT Puma would be a good fun car for you I think. I really enjoyed mine and it was great taking it for a blast around.

If I remember correctly, your like, 14 or something... a turbo is not the best option for you.

18 :P

Why insist on it?? it's almost like you want to pile your first car into a Lampost..

Oh and:

What a random requirement, a bit like asking for a car that does exactly 34.2mpg

Just buy a normal 18 year old car, please.

You're jus tnot going to get anything fast at this age; get a 106 1.4 Quicksilver. Does the job just fine.

Mondeo 2.0TDCi Ghia X (115ps) 5d Auto

A perfect candidate. It's insurance group 11, reasonably quick, has a turbo and can be bought for your budget. The Manual would be a better option but you can't consider that as it's insurance group 10. There's a quicker 130ps version, but that's no use either because it's insurance group 10 again.

Alternatively

Ford Mondeo Hatchback (00-07) 2.0 Ghia X 5d (00)

Group 11, but unfortunately no turbo.

Ins group has little to do with policy ammounts; its a guide for insurance companys. Previous claims on that car, who you are and where you live are the main factors. If you live in a ***** area, you wont get a policy on a Mondeo, but will on a Micra K10. If You live in the Cotswolds then a Mondeo isn't a problem.

Sarcasm ;) I put buying a car based on insurance group in the same bracket as buying one based on the colour of the salesmans shirt.

I know it sucks, but at 18 you need to get something sensible.

Forget insurance costs. Things like servicing, consumables (tyres, breaks, disks) and petrol are the big concern. A powerful car will munch through petrol, and the way you'll drive it means you'll fly through tyres and brakes too. And when something goes wrong (and on a 2k performance car it will) you're into big bucks.

Not to mention with 3rd party insurance, if you walk into the car park and someones smashed into your car and driven off. You're screwed.

Ant

Surely he'd be covered? Hence the 'theft' in TPF&T ;)

OP Just get something rubbish like a 1.25 Fiesta and buy a quick car in a few years when insurance companies will be less likely to mug you.

He said 3rd Party, not 3rd party, fire and theft. With TPFT you would have course be covered, but if they smashed your car up then sodded off, no - you would not be.

Get something half sensible you can insure at 18. You will not be driving anything particular fast with a massiv turbo innit with a 2k car budget unless you are prepared to spend the earth on insurance.

Also, because its actually quite concerning. Why the damn fascination with a turbo? Turbo does not automatically mean faster. Endless numbers of N/A cars that are faster than turboed cars. If it bothers you that much go get one of those fake speaker BOVs.

Did he not jsut mean if someone smashes into your car in a car park, then they drive off - leaving you with a dented car?

primera gt's have pretty cheap insurance for what they are iirc. But, if its your first car just get something crap like everyone else. You'll only smash it up if you get something fast. I'm so glad I drove around in a 1.0 for the first couple of years I drove. Now it gives me cars that I can look forward to driving and progress in terms of power, without having to pay ridiculous insurance premiums.

A Volvo S40 with 140ps is in insurance group 11 :p.
A Ford Mondeo with the 2.0 engine is in there too...
Hyundai Coupe 2.0i ?

Forget the turbo for now :p.
