Anyone know any companies that can put parcels in a container and ship them to the uk. Talking 3 or 4 boxes probably 1.5mx1mx0.5m and reasonably heavy 20 or so kilos each at a guess.

Might be best to google for a freight forwarder local to where the goods will be shipped from, usually get better rates that way rather than using a UK forwarder to import.

Sea shipments are quite cheap, although I've only ever brought on stuff via sea or whole containers from China, not USA. The clearance and handling charges can get a bit expensive though once the stuff arrives here!

Yes, there's also duty and VAT on second hand goods being imported into UK - but even if there's no Duty/VAT the handling fees at this end can add up quite quickly

Most items I import leave the EU again not long after - in this case you can do a temporary import if the items are to be re-exported again, no Duty/VAT to pay this way.

You can also check for a suitable commodity code beforehand so you know how much duty you'll be paying - also not that the duty tariff that is shown for duty from specific countries applies to where the goods were manufactured, not where they're shipped from. Happened to me last week now have to wait a while to get my duty back as the courier used incorrect commodity code!

You could use something like: http://www.kn-portal.com/locations/, but surely it might be worth looking at Fedex or something for a small one off shipment like this?

isn't fedex air freight only? in which case it would be thousands I imagine.

Only imported small stuff before and it's been £10-20 charge + tax. will have to look up the duty codes. Both manufactured and shipped from US and staying in UK.

3-4 cartons of that size will be charged at 450-600KG by an air service like Fedex which would be extremely expensive - probably around £2000-£2500

Sea freight itself would be cheap , no more than £150-200 for the shipping itself, but of course be a little slower than Fedex!

The recent sea freight stuff I've had have cost at least a couple of hundred for all charges (excluding duty + VAT) although I can't give a breakdown now as I don't have the invoices handy unfortunately!

Ironic Namesake do you know where the pdf file with all the duty and vat rates are on the HRMC website. i can't seem to find it. i've looked at it before..
