Completely drenched by the police...

Heheh, funny old cops - you've got to love 'em sometimes. Who knows what whacky stunt they have planned next? :D

LOL @ "wall of water." Killed your iPod? They've done you a service mate.

:)

i would phone up the complaints line (do they have one)
and have a moan
if you drive trough a puddle and splash a predestian you can be done for it
so they should too

ah yes, the mighty police force, who knick cannabis for themselves, park right up with all four wheels on the pavement to go to subway, block the entire city centre one way traffic system just to moan at a taxi driver with a tail light out, and arrest people on charges that do not exist.

Bunch of cretins who I lost all respect for years ago. Most of the ones under the age of 35 believe they are gods unto themselves. One set of rules for us and others for them, I guess they have that in common with politicians.

HOLY SWEEPING STATEMENTS BATMAN!

I think you should have a complain OP but don't get your hopes up. Even if you had plates I'd be surprised if you got anything back from them.
Can't you say you dropped your iPod in the toilet and claim on home insurance? :D

EDIT: No I wasn't being serious before the OcUK fraud squad come and stab me in the face.

lol reminds me of what a good friend said to me a few weeks ago. He's on first response(999 calls) here in N.I. "it's ******* brilliant. If it's a domestic abuse callout, we enter the property, and its still all kicking off we will subdew the ****** within an inch of the law". :D

Shortened your rant for you. :)

Never, and i find that quite offensive for you to suggest so. For a start I have worked with the police and got to know two of them very well, secondly I was arrested when I was 18 for a serious offence that didn't exist. Not a rant, factual statements all based on my own first hand knowledge and experience.

A whole two! Or one and a bit?

the forum consisted of 7 officers, I said I got to know two of them well. Although I was also friendly with a detective chief inspector after helping smash what remained of her M5`s driver window which had been shot with an air gun.

what else do you want, video evidence and DNA ?

Oh what a pile of rubbish, it's dark and they're giving it some welly, they're not going to be looking to avoid a puddle.

There's enough complaints on these forums about the Police being slow to respond to calls they get, would you rather they just drove slowly and cautiously in case there's a puddle or got to their shout quickly.

You said they were travelling at speed, chances are that they didn't even spot the puddle or if they did then to swerve out of the way on a wet surface may have been more dangerous.

I was just pointing out your generalisation of the entire police force based on a few.

Sorry to hear about what they put you through but remember there are thousands of police. Most of them are competent (I hope :p) :)

Back on topic, i doubt very much if a magistrate would find in your favour if trying to claim money directly from the police but, as has been suggested, you may have a claim under your house contents insurance. It may not be worth it as your annual premium could increase more than the value of the ipod depending on its value. This is just my opinion though :)

Crazy, I was standing at a bus stop on thursday afternoon after it'd been raining pretty heavy. This was in the centre of town, 50kph speed limits (30mph) everywhere. There was a deep but thin puddle extending about 1 1/2 ft into the road, plenty of room to avoid as it was a double lane road. Even the taxi drivers managed to avoid it and the buses would even slow right down going through to make sure they didn't get us (about 6 people there including me). I look up this long straight road to see a police van coming tearing down the road, no sirens or lights, just speeding for no apparent reason. no one on the outside lane but they still stick right into the curb and of course splash all of us. I wasn't too bad but they literally drenched one poor girl from head to foot and got her phone soaked too.

I was well ****ed off at them as they went by, no one else was going even half their speed along that road. Had a good mind to report them but they were gone before I could get a number and I was wrecked after college anyway.

Just a weird coincidence that it happened to you a day or two later. You always get the odd ignorant policeman everywhere.

I know I know, it is a generalisation on my part, and I am sorry for that, but despite working with them after the event, and despite being good friends with two of them, I will never, ever, trust the police again. No amount of money or letters of apology would make up for what they did and indeed could well have done to me.

Even so do you not think they should still be responsible for any damages caused?

If you personally did the same in your car (with a good excuse for doing so) would you not still perhaps think 'oh sorry mate, I busted your iPod, sorry about that, my fault, let me sort you a new one out' if it was possible to get in contact?

If it was any other road user in the same conditions, and you took down details, and you went through all the correct steps; you would stand a chance of reimbursement for the damage to your music player. Same stands when the police do it on an emergency call.

In my opinion complaining because you get splashed by a puddle is stupid, whether it is the police or anyone else. If someone does it on purpose then that's a bit harsh, but you'll live.
