Hi all,

OCUK RMA people have agreed to refund the board, allowing me to order a new one before I send the old one back, but basically it needs to be sent back monday at the latest or maybe even get it sent off tomorrow. Do I get another GD-65 or change it for a different board?

I think the vast majority of people that went for the msi boards only did so because they were on special offer at the p55 launch.
Personally I'd go with Gigabyte or Asus.

I'm a bit confused - was the board that was damaged in transit one of the discounted boards?

And the supplier is refunding your £65 or whatever so you can buy a full price board? But you have to buy it from them to get the refund? Sounds dodgy.

Surely the courier's insurance will replace the board that was damaged in transit? It seems extremely harsh that you're basically paying almost double because the courier was clumsy. Or have I got this confused?

Either way, I'd be looking at an ASRock P55 Extreme for £100 or ASRock P55 Deluxe for £130 I think. To all intents and purposes the same as the ASUS boards but £50 cheaper.

Hey mate, the board box was intact, the top corner if you remember my other post was bent, and showing pcb fibers! So ocuk have said they'll refund/replace it, however (I paid full price not 1/2) Im wondering whether to just get another gd-65 or change to a different make etc?

If you paid full price then fair enough. If you can't get an ASRock then I'd probably buy MSI or Gigabyte.

Not seen many reports of P55 boards really, but the odd ones I have seen seem to show Gigabyte and Asus as being quite good. Think on a budget I'd go for a Gigabyte one.

But saying this and Im using a GD-65, clocked upto 4.2GHz without too much trouble and its running fine, has all the features most people will need and is a pretty good board! I'd happily get one again so you may be happy just getting yours replaced with another GD-65

Thanks for the reply, was thinking the same thing, I want to get it ordered tonight so I can get delivery tuesday :) Any info on your watercooling?

click on the picture in my sig, goes to some photos in a thread for my current system using the GD-65 :)

But basically a EK Supreme block, XSPC RS240 rad, TFC 120mm rad and DDC pump. @4.2GHz temps dont go over 65 :p

I have a swiftech kit coming my way reasonably cheap but the block doesnt fit 1156, so could I use that block you're using with the swiftech kit?

I think you should be able to. Which kit is it? As long as its not a sealed unit, as in it uses normal barbs and tubing then you should be fine to do that :) The EK supreme is maybe the only block out there that fits 1156 at the moment, but its a pretty darn good block anyway so thats not a bad thing :)

Swiftech apex ultra or something? I can't remember exactly but has 2x120mm rad etc? :) Just wondering whether the tubing will fit straight on the block or do i need to buy the barbs?

You not keen on your MSI? I was just going to get the GD-65 replaced, unless there is a better alternative?

I had both GD-65 and GD-80 boards and they were fine, but I chop and change and all the information I have at the moment says the ASRock is basically the same as the ASUS board (ie. good) at £50 less, hence the recommendation. I think if P55 mothereboards aren't cheap ie. less than £100 then you should really by buying a low-end X58 board. And yes, I do appreciate that you already have the i750.

Done a quick search and think that kit comes with 7/16" tubing, so if you just buy a couple of half inch barbs with the block you should be fine :) Think it comes with plastic barbs for the swiftech block and not sure how well they will do in other companys blocks.

This has gone a little off topic now haha, sorry

I am still within my DSR period though WJA, at the end of the day I could go 1366?

Edit : Though its silly money on top for no real gain at the minute!

ASRock ASR-P55-DELUXE

Would that be the board you are referring to ?

Edit : Just read something very interesting in a review - 775 coolers fit it!!

"Looking closely at the CPU socket we see the new LGA-1156 hold-down clamp and something interesting. Notice that there are two holes in the board where you would mount the CPU fan. This feature that ASRock calls “Combo Cooler Option” or “CCO” allows you to use any existing Socket 775 cooler on this board for your Socket 1156 CPU."
