as title say's guys are they any good? i think i read they don't fully go to 4ghz overclock?

Yeah i put mine straight to 4ghz using a guide on another forum, it was a bit toasty for my setup so i put it back to 3.6 and its solid. Well impressed with it so far, havent played many games on it as im waiting on l4d2 and Cod:MW2,

just finished installing win7 retail. Gave x-fi another chance and it's working - sort of. Only issue noe id that intermittantly the sound 'skips' and the info bubble claims I've just plugged HP in even though they were there all the time. Tried 3 different sets as well as some powered speakers and all the same. Dodgy connector? Tried on on the x'fi riser card itself and exactly the same. If anyone else can replicate the same problem please let me know.

Installed all the drivers off foxconn disk under vista sp2 compatability mode.

ive gave up with the sonar xfi and ordered a xonar d2 tonight, never using a creative product again as they should have win 7 drivers or beta at least available to dl.

touching wood (not that wood furburt) it's working at the moment and has been for the last 30mins, no skipping. Not convinced though, waiting for a d2 or dx to crop up in mm again as i'm pleading poverty atm.

decided on ditching p08 too, going to try 09 now i've got retail install of win7 out of the way.

I have the same kit in a p6t, good ram and clocks well. Using OCZ Reaper 1866 in my bloodrage as I got it cheap, doesn't seem to clock as well as the gold though.

i7 memory controller is triple channel. You could use a dual channel ddr3 kit but would lose the benefit of the triple channel memory controller. It;s this triple channel controller which makes the issue of speed and timings with triple channel ddr3 largely irrelevant - the bandwith is huge.

Bios flashing has risks - a bad flash / power cut etc could screw the bios chip. Thankfully thr bloodrage has 2 physical bios's so if there was a problem your ok. Not sure what bios gti is shipping with - my full fat bloodrage came with p06 - I've changed to p08 but actually prefer p06 for 24/7 use. Board ships with a foxconn utility for flashing bios within windows - I and others have used this successfully although some will tell you it's risky letting flaky windows handle the software. The other way is to use a floppy / bootable usb stick, google usb bios flash bloodrage and have a look.

For info soundcard running ok again this ,morning - software still there but did once cycle on /off saying i'd plugged speakers in... Now it's working ok I can confirm it's better than on-board, just but no where near as good as a decent stand alone sound card.

Hope this helps

I hit 80 degrees once using HT, somewhere around 4.2 iirc. Safe temp for processor but thats what I set board to shut down at so off it went. Remember it's unlikely your cpu will be pushed as hard for as long as when your burn testing (stress).

For me 70ish degrees max (full load) 'day to day' is more than enough. I'm thinking about setting up two profiles - 4ghz odd HT off for gaming and day to day stuff, 4ghz HT on for when needed.

Sounds like a good plan. I am going to do something similar once I build my BR GTI rig (waiting on some parts). I will try and hit 4 GHz with as few volts as possible, but for the near future may settle for running at 3.6 - 3.8.

Which cooler are you using, btw? Currently debating getting a Megahalem, or keeping my old Thermalright Ultima-90i.

corsair H50. Afaik megahalem fouls ram with taller heatspreaders. Stuff like the ocz gold is ok, things like my reaper defiantely not. One solution is to turn the hsf 90's, works ok case dependant.

H50 is brilliant btw, as good as mega, similiar money and doesn't fould the ram or put a mahoosive strain on the board like a heavy hsf. With ht off I barely hit 60 at 4ghz :)

Ordered one with a i7 920 lol now all i need is ddr3 ram lool and then update the cpu cooler with something better then stock one, any ideas for a good cooler? as i will overclock to 4ghz

The noctua se2 fits well but only in 1 direction if you get ram with large heatsink fins, a la dominator, My case lets me down a bit for temps but i did have it clocked at 4ghz in the high 80s so if your on air i would suggest the noctua, im kinda thinkin i might pick up a H50 eventually though.

change the case bud, h50 will do your cpu but without sufficient airflow you'll cook the rest of your system.
