Allo,

I've just decided I have a reason to get my acoustic kit out of hibernation and ... it's probably never had its heads changed (except for one tom after some little noblet hit it too hard).

Anyway, it's a Pearl Masters MMX (Maple) kit in 10x?, 12x?, 14x? ( dunno depths) toms and 22x18 kick.

It needs new heads, as did my two snares (Mapex Black Panther 14x6.5 steel & 14 x 3/3.5 pearl free floating piccolo ) I ended up getting an Evans something (g2?) reverse dot on batter head and I think remo diplomat on snare side for both of these. It's transformed them - they had remo pinstripe 3s on top and diplomat on snare.

Anyway, I could stick with remo ambassadors/PS3 on the toms/kick but not sure I want to... should I try Evans/Aquarian? I'd like something controlled, but not dead (like say a hydraulic pinstripe would be).

What's anyone got/recommend?

What do I play? Mainly rock/fairly heavy stuff (but with my light touch)

I used to have coated ambassadors on all drums (except kick) but recently changed the toms to pinstripes. Definitely prefer the tone and it produces a far thicker sound for my kit (Tama Superstar). I've still got the coated ambassador on my snare as I haven't got round to trying anything else yet!

i do not like /thread. winds me up something silly.

You should probably try and get over it then. I just know how good those heads sound since I use them and have had nothing but compliments on the way the kit sounds. Not dead, controlled, and not too ringy. It's up to him what he decides from the various suggestions, who cares if there's a '/thread' tagged on the end.
