I know this is possible but all the tutorials i find on how to do this state that you need to copy the Vista sidebar folder.....i dont have Vista installed now though! (my only copy of Vista is a recovery partition (is a HP laptop)).

This is on Windows 7 Pro x64, i used to have Vista Home Premium x64 installed. I like the Vista sidebar as you can have it on top of open windows with the window resizing out of the way, the gadgets in W7 can be similar but they are in the way of the window, literally right on top of it!

Just changed the settings for each of the gadgets so they they are always on top. Id ont really see the point of the sidebar. Plus you can snap each of the gadgets to tge edges of the screen.

I'd like to know this as well. I find having the gadgets on top in Win 7 gets them in the way. Rather the windows resized like in Vista.

Well i havent tried it yet but i have been sent a copy of the Vista sidebar so will try it and if anyone wants a copy let me know....

The sidebar was horrible in Vista, why on earth would you bring it back from the dead in 7?

I can't think of a single thing you would want "on top" 100% of the time apart from maybe the clock [not like you don't already have one on show all the time anyway], so why not just use the Aero Peek on the right of the Taskbar? Hover your mouse over it and voila, you can see your gadgets.

There is a lot of space on a widescreen monitor, so you don't lose much by being able to fill it up with a few handy gadgets. i.e. my parents like the post it notes and bbc radio ones :p

You don't need the sidebar to do that either :p

The gadgets can be made to stay on top :D

I am not one to say what people should do with their computer [well, I am it is technically my job lol] but adding back the sidebar seems somewhat of an unnecessary hassle for a problem that doesn't exist.

The gadgets in W7 stay on top of open windows though, i find that rather poor.
As Chris said W7 gadgets is a step back from Vista gadget options.

The sidebar takes up way too desktop much real-estate, it is the main reason I don't like it. I have a couple of gadgets on my Win7 desktop and if I want to look at them I use the Aero Peek. I can't think of any gadget someone needs split-second access to nor any gadget that's worth losing some of your desktop to the sidebar to accommodate.

If you wanna use the sidebar then great, I personally don't see the point :p
