**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

Played it a while and AI lacks some common sense, like attacking the same target. The NPCs just run off and do their own thing. You have to pause, select each NPCs and select their target. Which is harder then it should be. Since, when you target something’s there is no reassuring reference you got the right guy. It can be hard in the melee to select the right one and in some instances you can’t target at all.

In Guild Wars you just press a key which calls a target and everyone automatically goes and attacks it. This game serious needs this. Thinking about redoing all my NPCs actions to make them only attack what I’m attacking.

Not been able to tab target doing by head in also. Years of WoW have drummed it into my head. Life would also be easier with it.

Morrigan should have been a healer, as you really need one from the get go. Don’t see much use for her shapeshift compared to her DPS. I’ve restarted as a warrior and I’m going straight to get Wynne. Now I know she exists!!

The friendly fire thing a pain! I know it doesn’t make sense AOE doesn’t hurt me but it makes it useable. I already want a mod to switch it off friendly fire.

Queston .. I have now have Morrigan in my group and I'm sort of turnung her into a healer have I messed up ??

Not really, mage/healer hybrids are pretty cool, just have to be carefull with mana. Saying that, why not just user her and Wynne? more healing and more damage.

My current set up is:

Me = Tank.
Sten = 2H DPS.
Moriggan = AoE spammer, almost unlimted mana due to regen items.
Wynne = Pure healer.

I am practicaly unkillable.

That's not limited to this game. All the bioware games have been the same. Ven back in (sorry to keep referencing it) Baldurs Gate. The whole point is to pause, plan out your battle, issue the commands and then resume.

What's a DPS and AoE? :o

Also can someone give me some basic tactics, so I don't die straight away even on easy. I'm still at the tower part, where the big LOTR style battle has just started. I'm still on the first level of the tower. I have Alistair, a random mage and a random tower guard in my party.

Damage per Second - Not really relevent to this game as far as i can see, but can be used fairly loosely in relation to a high damage character.

Area of Effect - A spell or ability that has an effect spread over a pre-determined area. Like spell that says "damage all enemies within 50 yards" or something, or if you need to use a template to select an area within which everything is damaged.

Cool thanks.

Also, when do you get to choose your own party like you guys are doing? So far I haven't been able to do any of the side quests I've found.

No idea. I'm at the same place you are. I suspect that after this tower there's some impressive cutscenes (more...) and then we're left to our own devices to revenge some unexpected death or pick up a delightful crusade.

My only aim in this game is to keep the dog the whole way through.

In defence of rogues, they're awesome. They don't seem as good because backstabs aren't as extreme as in Baldur's Gate and similar. Just unlocked the duellist specialism so making quite a nimble little elf fighter.

In reponse to other points, I'd agree that it's annoying if Morrigan (or Wynne) do not fit in with your party, because unless you mage it up they're your only choices. The game does need a few more alternatives, considering there's two rogues and four fighters.

Try the old art of pulling. Tell you party to stand somewhere safe. Lay traps if you have them. Then run off and agro the mobs. Run back to your party and then all attack the first mob that comes into your parties range. Should quickly get mob numbers down so you can zerg the rest.

Found this the safest way to get past that fire room full of traps and corridors where mobs all come out of doors at once.

After you have more than 4 companions basicaly.

What happens is after the opening quest chain, i.e origin + grey warden part, you get a choice of going to 4 plot areas, you gather people along the way.

My advice to go to the mage tower first is partly because it's awesome and you get loads of stat bonus's and partly because you get Wynne who is a healer.

Yeah. Definately need more ranged fighters. When I found Morrigan she was a shapeshifter, the rogue girl was a bard, wynne was a healer and the assassin rogue was sword specced, so if you want ranged DPS you're basically committed to being gimped. I'm just praying I stumble across a primal mage or an archery specced rogue soon.

Don't you find friendly fire a problem or are you playing on easy?

Playing on Normal, it allows me to micro manage a little but for easy fights just let my team auto smash things into oblivion.

AoE can be a problem, but I usualy control Morigan/Wynne during big battles anyway as she has far too many spells to effectively use AI tactics.

I can't help but shake the feeling that more characters will be enabled via dlc ;). There are conversation options at camp where you can ask party members to leave, though i've never tried one out.
