Following on from the vacuuming thread it appears a good few of you have cleaners.

Can you let me know how much it costs and how much they do for you?

Is it a company or self employed cleaner?

I have been thinking about this for a while now so would appreciate any advice. I looked at Molly Maid before but then read a couple of bad reviews.

Not sure what these bad reviews are about but was it about them always hanging around the local pub? one of our locals is like a Molly Maid convention with all those cars parked outside at all times of the day.

Dont get me started on their parking :rolleyes:

Oh and back on topic, no idea what the normal going rate is but could find out as my mum does household cleaning but only ever done it at two places so nothing major.

Nah the reviews were just about them doing a pretty poor job and being quite expensive.
 
We had a cleaner when I was a kid. Mrs Ayres her name was, and she smoked so much, whenever she spoke it was like she was gargling with gravel. She had a true love for Arsenal, and everything Arsenal related, going even as far as to send death threats to Sol Campbell when he moved to Tottenham.

She cleaned our house every Friday for as long as I could remember.... until one day she just didn't show up, or the next week, or the one after that. Was really wierd as we heard nothing from her.

Think she might have died!

We paid her £20 for the work (about 5 hours I think), well under the minimum wage.
 
Most cleaners get paid about £8-12 per hour.... (thats what my MRS got when she was 16-18 as a part time job)
 
I was thinking about this last night. How much would it cost for someone to come in an do say an hour of ironing? When i iron it takes ages and my shirts look worse than when i started!

I hate ironing
 
Think my mum pays £30 for 2 hours of 2 people.

They don;t do much though, just "cleaning" so my mum tidys up so the house is clean anyway, they just dust, hoover, sweep, polish and wipe stuff down. Not worth it imo.
 
My mum has a cleaner at her house and pays £20 for a couple of hours work, I have the same woman clean my house once a week and we also pay £20 for a couple of hours work.

The house is always tidy, so it's just a case of general cleaning, like hoovering the carpets, washing the laminate and tiled floors, dusting and polishing and cleaning the kitchen worktops and the bathrooms.

Could do with someone to do my ironing, although saying that I only iron my shirts and my trousers, everything else just gets put away.

7.50 an hour and it's not worth it? If I was a cleaner I wouldn't work for less than £12 an hour absolute minimum. The problem with people in jobs like these is they are far too willing to settle for a low wage when in fact people would probably be willing to fork out quite a bit more.

If that kind of thing floats your boat, go to Red Tube and then top rated videos. You will find one near the top of the first page that relates to a maid, and it's fairly awesome.

Jambo - they will do what you tell them to do (within reason :p) but just make sure you treat them like poop so they know who's boss.

My mum supplies all their equipment which makes it pure profit but I agree it is cheap, just a shame they are ****.

the one we had before was caught trying on my mums cloathes and nicking stuff....

basically I am not a fan of them, rather do it myself.
