Insurance fraud bureau

I can't see this having a big impact on the size of insurance premiums.

For insurance premiums to come down noticeably, there has to be a total overhaul of how the insurance system works. I'd prefer a system where every 'driver' was forced to have third party insurance. Car owners could then chose to take out more comprehensive cover for their car, much as they do now.

Also, the way that insurance claims are paid for needs to be looked at. The 'mark up' on any repair done as part of an insurance claim just serves to inflate the insurance premiums.

I must be missing something because you appear to have just described the current system. Third party insurance is already the legal minimum requirement for a driver, and they can choose to pay more for fully comp? The only thing is how do you "force" a driver to get insurance?

The only way to force them is to take 3rd party insurance as a basic tax on your wage.....

Clearly that won't work because all the council estate scroungers who don't work won't be paying tax......

The only way it would work is insurance through the cost of fuel. You pay for what you use. A higher performance car generally uses more fuel. Perhaps add in a rebate system for lorry drivers?

So electric cars don't need insurance? ;)

One point on that fraud reporting site was interesting:

"If you know anyone involved in committing insurance fraud, you are paying for this with increased insurance premiums. This money can then be used to fund other criminal activity."

They appear to be saying the extra money you are paying to insurance companies can fund criminal activity? Like robbing you blind at premium time...

High performance vehicles aren't the only risk taken into account. You need to take the driver into account too, which this system wouldn't and thus be unfair.

Only as a last resort (you can take from wages to go to an expensive third party insurer for those who do not take the responsibility themselves), but you have the issue then of it effectively being a tax on driving licenses, which is somewhat dodgy...
