Hi all,

I know theres a bit of interest with this motherboard on here, but I wanted to mention a few issues ive seen to make people aware, and to see if anyone else has this problem. I will be contacting Foxconn to get a response from them as well.

The first problem I encountered with this board is that the if you use Windows 7, then the CD with the drivers on appears blank. It works fine in Vista, but you can get the Intel x58 drivers for Windows 7 on the Foxconn website.

Im getting lockups in Windows and mainly when using Steam, havent managed to track this down yet (Event Viewer shows no problems).

The utilities that come on the disc look really poor. The Aegis Panel 2 software which gives the fan speed and temp info looks like it was designed by a 10 year old!

The LiveUpdate for updating the BIOS works well, however I updated my BIOS to P08 rebooted the PC and windows had to detect all the drivers for every device again! never seen that happen with another motherboard?

The 1600Mhz RAM I have is detected as 1067Mhz.

The Red Force Reset button on the motherboard doesn't really seem to help with anything, just reboots the PC.

The biggest problem I have is when overclocking you chance a setting in the BIOS called "System Turbo" You change this to Enable and it gives you access to the overclocking features. If this is changed and any kind of overclocking features changed you reboot and get the message:

"AHCI BIOS not installed" along with "WARNING! Over clock recovery occur. Starting in Safe Mode now"

You have to go back into the BIOS and put settings back to default.

Some other people over at overclock.net had the same problem and you have to disable the following:

BIOS > Quantum BIOS > OC Gear > Disabled Over Clock Recovery

This then allows you to make an overclock.

Following the overclocking guide over at XtremeCPU, I haven't hit the 4GHz overclock. The PC wouldn't even post. I have managed 3.6GHz, but will pursue this to see if I can get better.

I cant help but feel I wish id gone with the Gigabyte GA-X58-UD3R motherboard.....

In Summary, has anyone had any of these problems? and what settings have you changed to overclock yours?

I used the same guide as you but just changed the multiplier down to give me 3.6 instead of 4ghz, this let me lower the cpu voltage too,

I did see the "safe mode" warning as i was playing around, but never since i settled down on 3.6,

I did see the cd was rubbish, not an issue really, you can just browse through the folders or get newer drivers from the net,

Is your ram reported as 1067 by everthing or just the foxconn tool? that may be the start of your probs.

P08 i have read is a bit meh, P09 works well for me, P06 is best for Ocing apparently,

Whats your temps doing on oc? do you have a good PSU?

Ram reporting as 1067Mhz would be normal as that is the offical supported memory speed for the i7 920, you'd have to tell it to run faster than that.

Also from what I've read the F08 bios is bad and should be avoided, the F09 bios is much much better.

Ok, it looks the 1067 is normal then, and when you overclock it will change.

I've just been told about this website: http://www.quantum-force.net/ which is better to get the updates from. The LiveUpdate tool only takes you to P08. So I will try the P09.

Also FYI there are 2 types of BIOS at the moment G30 and P09. G = Beta and P = Public.

I will let you know my temps later.

Well i updated to p09 BIOS, and i dont have to disable OC Recovery now anyway, so things seem better.

Im struggling to get over 3.6Ghz though. Does this look ok:

open the program using vista compatability mode, works fine although you'll prob have issues with the sound card, thank creative as well for that one.

Are you sure this is the mobo - others have had issues with steam and win7.

didn't have this problem, using rc or retail version.

I sometimes have to press it twice and then it recovers to last bios setting, useful when oc is soo bad it hangs on posting. rare but...

I had this issue after following the guide. Tbh the guide is a bit carp, but it's somewhere to start. I haven't disabled OC recovery. Back the volts right off, far too many. Baby the bclk up and adjust volts as necessary. P06 should at least boot into windows at 20 x 180 on stock volts.

a good budget board, which the gti isn't but thatnks to a stellar price drop is at least in the same price bracket. No comparison though imo.

As already posted ditch p08, i've learnt to oc using the bloodrage and p08 isn't great. I've found it more stable at higher clocks but it's needed more volts to get there. Got to 4.5 in win using p08, not stable but didn't blue screen. I've yet to try p09, or any of the beta's. More knowledgeable ppl than I were recommending g25 for extreme oc, not heard much on g30 yet as i've been out of the loop a little while. I'll try p09 but tbh I like p06 with it's little foibles - I hit 4ghz stable at a much lower voltage than p08.

p06 doesn't let you but I had a feeling I could have gone under stock volts to get to 4....

Im not sure what the lowest voltage i can hit 3.6GHz, at the mo I just want to know my setup can do it. Maybe i'm changing some settings incorrectly, as im a bit of a noob at it.

I managed to boot into windows at 3.8GHz but i had to lower the memory mulitipler to x6 so it ran at somewhere around 1150Mhz. Tried to get to 3.9MHz with this method but windows would not boot. I even changed the voltage to 1.44. Does this mean my memory is faulty? as its rated at 1600Mhz.

What are the exact settings are people are using to get 4GHz? I thought i was spose to get 4Ghz easy with this board.

I am using the Titan Fenrir Cooler.
 
Can I assume that you can flash a normal Bloodrage bios with a GTi motherboard?

I'd like to try these G25 etc that others are talking about . . .

I'm currently running the GTi 09 bios with a stable OC @4.2Ghz

But that did not answer my question about if you can use a 'fullfat' Bloodrage bios on a GTi Bloodrage.

Personally I would have thought so as they are essentially the same board.

I just need some confirmation if its ok to flash!

That part im not sure of. I think I have seen people talking about using the G25 on the GTi over on the overclockers.net forums. May also be worth contacting Foxconn direct, their support page seemed pretty good.
 
afaik there the same bios, supported by the fact thatg when you run live update it comes back with both versions for the same bios file. as saaya over at XS, he'll know as i believe he helped design the damn thing.
 
So what seems to be the best bios to run for a relatively mild OC for day to day use on these motherboards then? (the F06 or F09)
