I've had a search for this and can't find a thread covering this.

Last night was playing a game online against someone I was clearly better than. Sadly I only ever use my beloved Tottenham and was taken to extra time against Bayern Munich. 2 - 2, he scores and is kind enough to show me 3 or 4 replays of his bundled in effort. 119 minutes on the clock and I go clear with Robbie Keane - he's just about got the legs to stay in front of the defenders, keeper is rushing out L1 is pressed and I about to chip him from the edge of the area, in comes the defender hard from behind, I knew this guy would pull a stunt like this - down keane goes, unable to release the chip. Defender gets a straight red. Keane lines up the free kick, hits the upright with the last kick of the game. All over - I go down to some annoying guy who I outplayed for most of the game, all because of a tackle I saw coming.

Can I hurdle tackles? Or avoid them in anyway?

If you arent running full punt you can hurdle them but i dont think you can get out of the way from anything at the back.

Some times a red card means so very little :(

With 1 minute left and no post game impact - am I a fool for never pulling this same trick?

That was a standard thing to do at the end of a game of pro back when I used to play in a ladder online. Pretty disgusting tactic but everyone did it.

If you see it coming the best you can do is get your player into an advantageous position for a free kick, it's a rough tactic but most players will do it.

I should add too, practise your free kicks! In around the edge of the area you should be able to score all of them with practice.

You could've used a skill move. Not sure of the appropriate PS3 button combination but sliding tackles an be avoided on the 360 by holding down the left trigger and the holding the analogue stick to either the players left or right, he should walk to the left or the right while facing forwards, dragging the ball along with him.

See, I get very annoyed by this kind of thing. I play ranked online games, I'll use Spurs against anyone, if I think the ref has given me a stupid penalty (you know when you take a shot, they've slid in to block and clip you after you've already missed), I'll blast it over, I will never knowingly take someone out, if I get a yellow it's because I've miss timed it and made a mistake.

This stuff just annoys me, sick of playing someone and their team defaulting to a 4 1/2 star team (say Villa, or Man City) then seeing them switch to Barca or Chelsea. Would love to have the odd game against an evenly matched side without having to switch to a 5 star team.

Think my record would be better if I did though - 72 wins, 8 draws, 64 losses.

See this would have brought another defender into the frey, but I think it's the best option in this cicumstance.

Lets be honest, who in real football wouldn't risk a red in the last minute of extra time to protect a lead? I know I'd do it even though I never slide tackle in games normally. As for hudling tackles, I don't think it would be possible to do that when the tackle is from behind.

As for people picking better teams than you, I agree that people should try and pick a similar rated team, thus making it more competitive. I always wait for my opponent to pick and then pick a team at the same level, its a shame more people don't do this.

I do this, though I don't mind a half star difference. Then when they be one of the Sky4 anyway for the strikers with guaranteed tackles and sub 8 second 100m sprint times, I pick a matching team. After a few games though I will move to Sunderland and hope someone will pick a team they might actually like. If not I just hop out and find another match until someone does.

I don't think you can filter on that for a rank match. Also it classes 4 and 1/2 and 5 together. Not being funny, but there is a huge difference between Villa and Barca!

Anything goes in ranked online play against randoms, I have done something similar in the past, I hate picking a 3/4 star team for them to pick Barca/RM/Man Utd etc.
