Hi there,

Completly stuck on what to do here....I'm studying International Business at Uni and need a topic to do my dissertation on.

I'm very into football so I turned my attention there-

I came up with- FDI in the Premier League. Does everyclub want it and is it good for every club?

I feel the question is too wide however and I doubt big clubs management will talk to me...

I was thinking doing something about proposing wage and transfer caps to reduce the gap between the top and bottom of the table?

I'm still not sure though, I need something thats specific, and will have a clear conclusion and outcome.

i would re-work it to show how little repsect footballers and management have for the game and can buy their way out of anything.

then research chelseas overturning of the transfer ban they were slapped with 6 weeks ago which has now been over turned.

also focus on how arrogant footballers are compared to rugby players when it comes to showing officials respect, because footballers obviously ''want it more'' don't they?

Thanks very much for the reply.

To be fair all your suggestions are more ethics based. I was looking to go into more the Business/Political side of things :)

They'll never introduce a salary cap because all the half decent (including English) players will all go to Spain/Italy/Germany and we'll be left with football that isn't worth watching in comparison

Thats what I was thinking, we wont be able to compete in Europe and clubs will moan etc etc...

they've introduced 50% tax. aslong as there is the likes of man city and chelsea around, the players will come as they will simply pay them more to balance it out. i think it's a good thing, great for the economy. it's the trust and lack of respect thing i don't like.

The only reason our league is so strong at the moment is money, take the money away and the league will be destroyed within a year

Wage caps is a good idea but I doubt it will ever happen as there is a big gaping hole in the argument with the fact that The PL will not be able to compete with Seria A and Primera Divison in terms of signings and in turn, the CL.

I talked to my tutor, who wasnt very helpfull, he told me to do-

Foriegn Investment in the Premier League. The case of _________ and ___________. Is it good for a club?

Now my dissertation needs a point, a resolution. Can a club buy success? What is Chelseas opposite? I was thinking West Ham but even they have foriegn owners right?

What should be the main point of my dissertation do you think? That clubs can buy success? But how is that a bad thing?

I'm really getting stuck on this and I cant believe my tutor didnt at least help me abit more.....

Grammar Nazi how do you think FDI is skewing the quality? (What does skewing even mean lol)

The tutors aren't really there to help us, only there to misguide us into thinking we now know what to do...well thats what mine seems to be doing. Gumpf.

Dissertation = as long as I've got my lit review done before 2010 starts I'll be happy :p

Personally I wasn't thinking about a wage cap only applying to England but being enforced by FIFA.

My idea would be to grade players

say A-F

A) being a player such as messi or Ronaldo

Then going down the scale with a salary cap on each scale.

Again being 100% the same across all leagues controlled by FIFA

Mine, and I'm being serious - scribbled down what I said and said do that. I asked him I need something more specific and he just said do it about two clubs. I said it needs a point and he just looks at me. Then I just left....even asking If I should email him the finalised question and he just said no I just gave you a quesiton....meh.

I was suggested this- With the amount of debt mounting. Can a football club ever be a sucessfull business? Which two clubs do you guys think I could look at?

But who decides who deserves to go into which grade?

But who decides who deserves to go into which grade?

I thought this would be asked and I think it should be tied fulfilling a certain criteria, for example:

Number of 1st team performances
Number of caps for country (this would also put more emphasis on playing for your country)

Sure others could think or more performance related aspects that would bump up your grade.

Could also have a bonus system for number of years at a club. For example if you reach the top of your grade, you can still make more money by showing loyalty to the club you are at and receiving a yearly bonus for not swapping teams.
