This sort of thing is so unfair on other people competing who have not decided to cheat by getting a bunch of people they don't even know to vote for them.

No, its called attempting to win a competition for reasons other than your own merit.

If he was worthy of winning it surely people who knew what the competition was about would vote for him anyway.

I just can't imagine how miffed I'd be if I lost out on something like this because somebody else competing just plain cheated. Yet everyone here seems happy to help this guy trash the competition even though they dont even know him?

Turns stuff like this into a trashy fake internet popularity contest.

I agree its a bid bad, however I'm sure he doesn't do this every week.
By the looks of it its something about playing in a game? Its not a very fair way to do it, maybe that bloke that was winning has the same group of friends that vote for him everytime?
