Bench press at an incline - best way to tone chest/torso?

Kill him, kiiiiiiiiiiiiiill him:eek::D.

I'm also all for dumbbell pressing over barbell pressing, also another thing I find helps upper pectoral development is Military Pressing seated or standing and on a flat bench Straight Arm Dumbbell Pullovers.

Has everyone completely missed the fact that I put the word "toning" in QUOTES because the OP used it?!

No, judging by the ":D" you quoted. I don't think people actually get upset when people say toning :p

Using Dumbells has advantages over Barbells because you have to use other, smaller muscles to stabilize the weight.

Using a Barbell means the weight is in a fixed position and these stabilizer muscle are not used as much.

Barbells are mainly used for the compounds but can be exchanged if you really want to, not much point though.

Dumbbells mean I can lift significantly less weight, because my left arm is a LOT weaker than my right (I play cricket, bowler). However at least with a dumbbell I can ensure that one arm is not compensating for weakness in the other by taking on more of the load.

If I was of equal strength on both sides, I'd probably be using barbells instead of dumbbells, as the extra weight would help me think I was progressing more, mentally if nothing else.

I prefer dumbells mostly for ease of use. I don't like messing around with adding weight and clips, I just like to pick up the weights and get on with it.

I don't bother with clips. I wouldn't worry too much about one arm getting more load with a bar either. If your hands are equally spaced and the bar is staying level throughout then there shouldn't be too much difference.

I even use dumbells for chest, which I don't really mind. Can't use a bar because haven't got stand to go with the bench in our gym at work and I'm not switching gyms because it's £90 a year and only 100 paces from my desk.

Both barbell and dumbells are as good as each other.

if you use only one of them then you will not grow as much as using both.

DBs do increase ROM, but not by much, not if you are staying safe anyway - for example, when i dumbell press my elbows dont go that low, i wouldnt say its much more than with a BB press.

lifting big means using a BB. lifting big means recruiting more muscle fibres, this helps build mass.

Back to the OP. It aint gonna happen. Just get pressing in various ways. mix it up a bit after a few weeks, heavy flat barbell, heavy incline db, light flat db and bb

also, dont just look at pressing - dips, do them!

You need both DBs and BBs for the all round physique, one without the other is pointless.

For mass building you very much do need to mix it up as Morba has alluded to already.
