Lucky Seven Lottery Winners - made me chuckle

Shocker as car related lottery quote in a motors sub-forum attracts car orientated posts.

Personally i think she should forget about the Corsa and purchase a goat.

Ok, well in that context, what would you say if she said 'I've always wanted a good camera so I'm going to treat myself to a Nikon Coolpix L20'?

She didn't say 'i've always wanted a good car' though did she?

Your point would be comparible if she had said that but she didn't. If she'd said 'I'll treat myself to a Coolpix L20' then fair enough, why not, she might like the colour or design of the camera? She probably wouldn't even care about how good the pictures it took were, or if another camera had superior features, she might just happen to want that camera because she likes it.

The point was, she isn't going to spend loads of money on something she has no interest in. Everyone needs a car and a house and these are usually the two most expensive things people will ever buy so it's only natural that thoughts turn to them when asked what you would do with a **** load of money. It doesn't mean she has the first idea about cars or even any sort of interest in them, she just realised she can buy the car she's been saving for.

If she has no interest in it, why was it the very first thing she said she'd buy. Surely this indicates a small level of interest?

It's something she'd previously been saving up for, she can now afford it, ergo she wants to go and buy it. It doesn't mean she has any sort of interest in cars at all. She can afford to buy something she previously wanted but couldn't afford. Simple as that. Doesn't make a blind bit of difference whether it was a Corsa, a GT-R, a polaroid camera or a box of expensive wine.

Not really

Before winning the lottery:

"Ooh, those Corsa's look nice, I wouldn't mind one of those if I could afford it"

After the lottery

"Ooh, I think I might get one of those now"

This thread epitomises the fail that internet boards bring out in people.

I think that's what people are failing to understand when they come up with these completely irrelevant comparisons. She mentioned it as the first thing that came into her head when winning the lottery.

If I'm honest, If I won the lottery I'd run out and buy a Corsa.

Then build a massive trebuchet and launch it back into the factory at 1000Mph

Sheesh guys step back for a moment - serious funny bone fail here* :p

I should have posted this in GD originally but thought that because every thread in Motors slates corsas that it would raise a chuckle and not spark off a massive debate defending her choice of car

Obviously once she realises what she can sensibly afford she hopefully will reconsider, if not then it's her decision at the end of the day

I would personally have recommened a nice Audi A3 or Mini Cooper

*to be fair it was funnier when I originally thought Alex was a guy, thanks for clearing that up and crushing the intended chortle from a dizzy hieght

It's a good plan. A Corsa as a cheap around town hack. Then, once things start to become clearer in a year or 3's time, she can buy a car that she really wants. But still keep the Corsa...

Millionaires tend to have quite a few cars for different occasions.

I'm with the WTF crowd

why not have a proper chicks car like the Peugeot 308CC or a nice 1.8 Audi TT convertible ?

Heck, most women seem to like the Aston Martin DB9 volante. That would be more like it.

My missus would really like an A3 convertible.

I can think of loads of chicks cars better than a corsa. Wasted tbh.

She has low standards and low aspirations and has lucked into money, something which has traditionally been scarce

Why are you suddenly expecting her to change her aspirations?

you may find this hard to believe but not everyones world starts and ends with cars, they have a life! mind you a corsa....oh dear

I have been saving up for the past year to buy myself a car
Says it all to me tbh. She's spent a year saving towards something and probabaly decided a corsa is the best option her and that's what she's been aiming for.

I spent the best part of a year looking for a decent MR2 at a price I found reasonable. If I'd won the lottery I would have gone out and bought one instantly regardless of whether I could afford any number of better cars.

It was something I aspired to own and I was so made up when I finally did, I can understand why she'd be happy getting one if she has been hoping to get a corsa for however long. It doesn't matter about the quality or value for money, just it's a goal she has been trying to reach and now she finally can.

If i was driving round in an Artic White Corsa VXR with absolutely no debt i would be totally happy! If i was around 19 that is.

It's the same as anything isn't it though, depends what you want.

I might buy a £10k PC, someone else might just want to browse the web and would get a PCW special.

I might get a new house and buy a cheap oven, you mightspend £50k.

If she's not interested in anything other than it looking nice and getting her about, why should she spend more ?
