If I was to purchase one of these, how quiet is the 120mm fan that is supplied?

Which leads me on to, what is the quietest 120mm fan?

it all depends on what you class as noisey?
As i would recommend setting the h50 up in a push pull config you will need another fan anyway.
i use 2x sharkoon silent eagle 1000rmp.
The Scythe gentle typhoon has a better airflow but the silent eagle is 8db quieter (16db push-pull) according to bit-tech.

I might make the move to i7 920 eventually, is the H50 up to the job if overclocking to ~4Ghz?

I keep coming across the noctua fans, are these any good.. appart from the odd colour scheme

after a few hours on prime 73 degs.
However i think i could lower these by a few degrees by moving my tower. @ present it is in a built in wardrobe with very little airflow as i speak room temp is 34degs at pc.

Yeh it should do 4Ghz without any problems. I've got the same setup except with it in a push/pull config.

I've just put a h50 on my Q9550 @ 3.9 and its nice and cool. i found the stock fan a bit loud for me so i put 2 Akasa Apache fans on it. (push, pull) there about 2/3c better at cooling and LOADS quieter than the stock fan, even with 2 on it!!

i'm not using it as an intake either, i'm sure it would cool better if i did. but after 2 hours of prime the hottest core it only 63c it was 69/70c with my old TRUE!

looks like the H50 has been pulled, not available on OcUK or any other online retailers.

anyone know whats going on with these?

Can someone explain quickly what is meant by the push-pull configuration? Apart from the obvious, are we taking 2 fans mounted on the same fan bay, with the radiator sandwiched in between? If you only have the one fan, would it be better to set it up as a push or a pull until payday?

push pull is as you say cooler sandwiched between and both fans working together for an improved air flow.

as for the 1 fan situation, I would put it on push

@The OP quietest is situation dependent. If you don't need it to move much air, and not any through a resistance, then a very low rpm fan running at 7V will be silent. It wont however move very much air. The quietest fan for a H50 with its high fin density will have to be significantly more powerful, as the previous example would have to be running flat out to move any air through it at all and an appropriate fan will spin much slower for better temperatures (than the weak fan). Realistically you want the scythe gentle typhoon, 1450rpm for the radiator. However by all means read around silentpcreview to look at the alternatives.

I trust you're comparing the true with the two apache fans to the H50 with the two apache fans, and not using a worse fan set up on the heatsink?

Push Vs Pull - This depends on fan speed/power. The high speed fans at 2000RPM with a 38mm fan thickness provided the best performance in a push condition. The slow speed fans with 1350RPM with a 25mm fan thickness provided the best performance in a pull condition. I would estimate that performance line is likely to cross in the 1500-1700RPM range where they are equal. So.... slow speed = pull, high speed = push, medium speed = it doesn't really matter.

Currently I have 6 120mm fans, one of which is on my Scythe Mugen. All except the mugem fan are turned down to as low as poss on my fan speed controller..

Also I think my system is "loud" because of the fan on my X1900XT its quite a whiner..

Hopefully a 5770 will help
