Wife posed as girl in online trap

A suspicious wife posed as a teenager online to catch her husband propositioning girls in a chatroom, Cardiff Crown Court has heard.

Cheryl Roberts, 61, pretended to be a 14-year-old girl and was asked by David Roberts, 68, to meet for sex.

Roberts admitted engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and making and possessing illegal images.

He was given a three-year community order and banned from having access in person or online to under 18s.

I'm not sure what I'm most disgusted by... The man himself or our lacking system that gives such a cruel man such minor punishment.

Come on then don't keep us in suspense, what punishment would you hand out?

I don't know... I'm no legal expert and nor do I pretend to be but I do know the difference between right and wrong and certainly appreciate that there are levels in between... And in this case I do not think "three-year community order and banned from having access in person or online to under 18s" is a punishment that accurately represents the intention (And past activities) of this man.

It's a good thing that courts don't sentence people on things they "might" have done or indeed on a whim.

Obviously there was no evidence for the things you seem to think he has done.

...

...she brought in police, who seized his computer and found dozens of illegal child porn images.

The couple have now split up and are getting divorced.

You don't say ...

He was lucky thats all the wife done.

Put yourself in her position so to speak. I would have cut off his manhood whilst he was asleep before calling the police.

Well at least he was asking them first.
I think the wife is most guilty - posing as a 14 year old, and probably wasting the time of several innocent 68 year old men

Rastaman, thats exactly what I was going to post in response to Skyfalls stupid post, he admitted to crimes and obviously had images and things found on his comp. He should be in jail, end of.

Its almost as bad as the child rapist being let off with an also ridiculous sentence, only to reoffend within days, that judge, and frankly, this one, should be fired.

But then how much pressure is being applied from above the judges to not give sentences to anything but murderers and crimes involving knives, ie the numbers the government are interesting in looking tough on.

Build some damn prisons already and stick these guys in jail for a change.

so you think its acceptable for 68yr old to plan in detail to have sex with a kid ?

its planning/plotting to commit a serious crime which im sure is or should be illegal.
