So you take your Monaro to have a leak fixed...

Having owned many Monaro's when I lived in Australia (just down to a '79 HZ wagon atm :-(.. )I just had to comment on this!!
I have owned many rare (now) and performance cars I NEVER take my vehicle to a 'main' dealer!!
And of course you all realise you DO NOT have to take your new car to a dealership for servicing to keep the warranty!! Any competent mechanic can service your car under European law (within reason)

Why pay 'dealer' prices and mostly (imho) poor customer service. Gimme an Independent specialist any day.

I used to own my own garage, specialising in custom and classic cars, you think you take take you classic car to a 'dealer' or manufacturer for a service? Get real!
Try to find a mechanic who's even SEEN a mark one Cortina, let alone find parts or service it!!

The majority (that I know\have met) of classic car owners are able to do at least basic repairs to their vehicles (You soon learn when you have one lol)

Someone quoted what Jeremy Clarkson 'said on TV' ROFL, you believe everything you see\hear on TV? (He actually knows a great deal! Not good telly though)

I have a 'friend' who still owns a Metro 6r4, and races\rally's it! (Who remembers them? V6 Twin Turbo 4x4 Mini Metro) WE do all the work on it, including MAKING parts that are not obtainable!
Some of you think we should be taking it to a Rover dealer? Yeah right! (Bugger! Fell off me chair laughing so much!)

Just visit Australia to see classic\rare cars STILL being raced, and NO they're not on the internet either!! Shock horror!! And nobody can take their car to the 'dealership' as they don't exist!!

And NO, I will not supply you with names, addresses, photographs or anything else!
Do any of think the owner wants his name splashed about on THIS forum with the childish posters some are!

Have a good day all!
P.s. Is the video footage from the 'road hawk' submittable as evidence in court?...anyone? )Facts, not opinions please)

By the way I do hope some of you have more knowledge of overclocking computers than the limited knowledge you have of cars!

Judge and jury?
I will be judged by my PEERS!!

As a 42 year old I remember the 6R4 well, having been a spectator on the RAC Rally on which it deputed and having seen it several times over the years, both road, rally and race. I also have a couple of friends who own them too, also other Group B cars as it happens. Oh, while we're at it, the 6R4 was not a twin turbo as standard...

I love resurrected threads! :D

Re The_Dark_Sides's comments about the RS1700T.

I'm 99.9% sure he's spot on. I recall reading in "The RS Fords" By Jeremy Walton of a few RS 1700T prototypes that found there way into private ownership that were used as intended.

I can't check as I lent the book to somebody that I still regard as friend but I seem to have subsequently fallen out with.... :(

No reason why you'd take something special to a main dealer over a regular garage - I know of a bloke who had/still has a Ferrari Testarossa (from new) which was serviced entirely by a BMW dealership (Hartshill Auto's now Knights BMW,Staffordshire) - he did own the dealer at the time mind you.

Interesting thread. :)

better than a jury. ;)

Re The_Dark_Sides's comments about the RS1700T.

I love the way this place puts so much faith in pics as proof of evidence.
A friend of mine has a Ferrari 360, which I could easily place under a loaf of Kingsmill and a handwritten note and pass the car off as mine.....If I was that way inclined.
I've said it all along, if someone doesn't believe something I've said then that's their right to do so. It doesn't make then right, but it also doesn't make me want to take things up another notch and go all out on some sort of sad crusade to "clear my name".

BTW I can't find my copy of Waltons book either, which is a shame as it's a very informative read.

Hey hey
Group B rally cars, stunningly dangerous, makes me smile just to think about em eh!
I think the European Rallycross Championship definitely helped to keep these cars going for a bit, the 205T16, the Delta S4, silly fast. :-)

Did ya know the original (development) engine was a 3.5lt Rover V8 with 2 cylinders (literally) cut off? Would like to see a Rover dealer work on that!!

I will stand corrected\informed on the single or Bi-Turbo bit, although I'm not too sure if there is a 'standard' 6R4, so many variants ('Deviants' sounds more appropriate) lol

And hello all, I'm don't always do such a blunt first post, ha ha, I'm quite friendly and amicable really.
