Anyone had experience of EDL/SDL marches before? Looks like it's going to be a big load of trouble.

For those who don't know about it, it's an unauthorized march by a group of 'anti-islamic extremists' who are closely linked with football gangs and the BNP. They plan to march past Scotland's biggest mosque (in the centre of Glasgow).

I've been handed flyers from groups planning to stop them marching, so really can't see this ending well.

There are a few sources of information about it on t'internet, which I'd copy and paste if I wasn't on my phone! An easy Google though.

Views/opinions?

Most of the violent confrontations happens when another unauthorized group tries to prevent this type of thing. Ensure the police the are going to be present and leave well enough alone.
As the saying goes - "Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference. "

I always liked "never argue with a fool, they will only drag you down to their level then beat you with experience"

I wouldn't be caught within a mile of that.

From what I have seen they seem quite peaceful, and are made up of British people, which include blacks and asians. They seem to protest against Islamic extremism, which in my book is a good thing.

The violence only starts when a Group called unite against fascism (the irony is lost on them) goes to counter protest. They seem to be the violent ones. Indecently, the Union called UNITE funds these cretins which I didn't know till last month. So promptly cancelled my union subscription to Unite. I will not fund a violent anti democratic fascist group.

The EDL march in Leeds passed off without any trouble last month apparently. Saw some of the EDL at the station just singing national anthem, being generally annoying, etc.

BTW I think they (EDL) are against Islamic extremism, not extremists against Islam. Although this is their official line, it seems like a very uncomfortable grey area to me!

There's no evidence that EDL/WDL/SDL have any connections to the BNP - in fact both groups deny that they are linked.

At least the police will be able to arrest them easily, most of them will be in the queue at the post office the following week awaiting their giros.

Gross generalisation, but one I'm happy to live with.

haha they arnt racist and they dont cause trouble, the ones that do are called 'united against facism' get your facts right, and they arnt linked to the BNP or any party unlike the 'united against facism' which have direct links to labour party.
