XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890 1024MB -- Noise + Cooling

Sure it's not exactly the same but I can't see there being that much variation?

Aye, it is a bit noisy, nothing terrible but if you want a quiet PC it is probably the first thing you will want to quieten down.

I recommended a friend get that exact card + this lovely cooler.

I had to use part of the stock VRM cooling plate (the big red metal thing) and this required a hacksaw to get the right bit. But apart from this, the install went fine and the card is now very cool and very quiet.

Wouldn't the Vapor-X be a better option? The cost is less than buying the card and adding an aftermarket cooler. Also get a small factory overclock as well for the price.

Seems to be out of stock on OcUK :( but it's available at other retailers for around the same price - but there are a few variations.

Is this the one? "SAPPHIRE TECHNOLOGY Radeon HD4890 Vapor-X - 1 GB DDR5 - PCI-Express 2.0 - HDMi (11150-05-20R)"

Yes. From the product code 11150-05-20R I would say it is exactly the same card that OcUK sell. Check OcUK's page.

Edit: Also notice that OcUK have VTX & Asus cards that are similarly priced that have custom coolers fitted that are in stock. Don't know much about them but it may be worth searching for reviews to see if they fit the bill.

Found this review of the Asus card, seems that it does a good job of cooling and keeping the noise down.

Wow I've just tried Modern Warfare 2 @ 1920 x 1200 and I expected it to be low framerate, but it's pretty smooth! Texture settings are fairly high and it's handling very well.

Might forget getting the 4890 for now then and grab a better, quieter cooler for the 8800GT:p -- any cheap ones around?

Remember the decibel scale is logarithmic, so 3db = twice as loud.
