**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

Oh sweet fury, I've lost my sword. Just booted up my game from lastnight and my 2-H starmetal blade's missing, as is Morrigan's staff and Sten's commander plate - he wasn't even in my party. This is galling, to say the least.

If i had a penny for every time i heard that playing at DM on nwn online ;)

4 people in a party *really* causes limitations on party makeup.

I think that how its suppose to be, you are not meant to be able to do everything all the time. Im guessing the limitation you are experiencing is lock picking? If there were no limitations the game would be even easier than it already is. Ive upped the intensity level to nightmare now, but thats a bit too hard and 'hard' is proving to be too easy 95% of the time.

I played BG1 and IWD1 and 2 over the last few years, found having 6 in a party a bit easy.

I dont like to be lead or hand fed through a game, I like harsh penalties that make the game feel more like a roller coaster! I.E. Online nwn servers!

At Lv12 and I'm running Morrigan, Wynne and the newly acquired Shale in preference over Alistair. So far Morrigan's higher end cold/fire attacks are devestating and OTT half the time reducing enemies to dust before I've even had a chance to **** them with my shield!

Shale is my newest addition and his outro movie where he kills that bird had me in stitches :D

Its just the flexibility and the range, both in combat and in interaction, that 6 people provide.

I'm not sure it'd dent replayability either, as I've replayed BG2 about 5-6 times, but can't see me doing that with DA:O due to the restrictive classes.

In terms of balance/difficulty, sure, if they kept it as it is and added 2 more people it would be easy, but the game would have been designed from the off with 6 in mind, so the challenge would have been the same.

As another aside (and I seem to be knocking this game a lot, I know) but the party interactions - they all got "rushed" through. Morrigan and Alastair had little quibbles at the start, but they had about 6-7 conversations in then first zone, then nothing since.

And surely Morrigan and Wynne would be at each others throats?

BG2's interactions were great, and they were "spread" so over the course of the game, chats would pop up here and there as you were moving around. Seems be very little of that - again, its something 4party members gives restrictions on...

Actually, while we're on the subject, how are people finding it compared to BG2?

I'm trying not to to be honest. :p BG2 was a beacon of excellence that will be hard to beat, so I'm not holding against DA:O for being great, but not as good.

It'd be like someone saying a FPS game was almost as good as HL2 but failed because of it. :D

Itemisation, I find, is pretty poor.

In BG2, you found a number or interesting items early on, and continued to throughout the game. Lilacor (a talking sword!) for example, or the +2 named sword on the first level. It gave you the incentive to search out decent items, there was always something new to wear.

In DA:O, I've only *just* put new armour on my Rogue at level 12. Morrigan is still using the same staff, as is Wynne. Alastair is only on his 2nd sword.

I just seem to get endless crap....loads of it. There's barely any named/unique stuff, which I find is a bit poor because RPG's are all about the loot. There's nothing better than fighting your way through a huge dungeon, felling the big boss and getting some sparkling, crackling, kick-ass mofo Sword to swing around your head.

But in this, you get Steel Dagger, a few pots, some Elfroot and a few coin. Great.

I'm quite late into the game, and I seem to find loads of named weapons when I'm ploughing through dungeons, very little of it is better than what I already have though.
All the really good stuff seems to come from quests as you'd expect. :)

Good mage gear is pretty sparse though. :(

Sounds like all that stuff comes from the DLC. Are you sure it's loaded?

I think your trying to hard to find faults in the game, comparing it to older titles. Just sit down and enjoy it! :p

I find it's a bit stupid to have the DLC but not be able to use it when offline.

I mean you already downloaded it. Why can't you use it other wise.

When ever I'm offline I can't even load my characters because of it.
It's quite annoying.

Can you not? I just started DA withough the network plugged in and it started with me logged out... and I have access to all my DLC.

I'm showing as logged out in the main menu but my email address is still listed in the bottom left corner.

Once you've done it logged in once, you shouldn't need to be on the internet each time you play.

However, there was some bug or other reported where this didn't update properly. Have a search on the daforum if it's causing you problems.

How do you give people gifts? Do you have to wait for an appropriate conversation option or something? I'm swimming with useless tat I want to dump on my team :D

Click on them and ipen their inventory, then right-click.hold and select the little present box.

That gives it to the person who you have open.
