A former Quakeworld clanmate of mine played Champions League football but isn't famous per se.
Obviously I've played against a lot of 'progamers' but none of those are famous outside the world of gaming with the possible exception of Fatal1ty due to his sponsorship deals and Sujoy due to his media appearances.
When you think about it, gaming is fairly mainstream now and it's likely that many famous people under the age of 35 grew up playing games, so it's probably not that rare that they do. Professional footballers are nearly all in that age bracket and have buckets of cash for fancy pcs, all the console, elite broadband connection etc, so I bet loads of them play online, albeit incognito.
