HI I have windows 7 and have been using msn live messenger but NOT in the last 2 weeks. Tried to sign in today and it just wont sign in.

Any idea what I can do. Tried to uninstall it then reinstalled it and still the same problem....

Most odd.

Have you checked that your firewall is not blocking it?

What's is the error code given by Live messenger and have you tried the connection troubleshooter in messenger itself?

81000306 error code.

I know my user name and password is correct as I can sign in on my mobile phone with it.

I even put the wrong password in field and it said thats wrong. So I know 100% that is correct.

Not sure how to check windows 7 firewall to make certain it isnt blocking it.

Yes, tried connection trouble shooter, only thing that doesnt have a 'tick' next to it is IE off line setting and wireless. (not useing wireless anyhow)

Odd... what AV are you using? assume you're using the default W7 firewall and that otherwise IE and everything else connects to the net just fine?

Check your system clock and make sure it is set to the right time. Anything over 5 - 10 minutes difference will cause sign-in to fail. It's a common issue assuming it is that

- Pea0n

Using Avast AV which is up to date/

IE works 100% fine (IE 8)

everything connects to the net fine except msn live messenger.

as for system clock. I take it you mean clock and date bottom right of task bar? well that is spot on as well.

Sure is just did a quick re boot and checked that as well.

Under tools---connection. (on msn live messenger program) it says I am not connected to .net messenger service. but i presume that is because i cannot sign in

Dano, clean install buddy.

Pea0n, no, router is as stock. Same as how it used to be when it worked (netgear dg834)

No it's not, you're connected to the net. However unlikely it may be there is always the possibility that something malicious is blocking it.

mmm perhaps. can you give me some suitable programs to download and check my system then (windows 7) friendly.

Only thing I can think of that it could be, is i did a router update 2 weeks ago. Just downloading a older version of the router software in case that is it now.

You do not need uPnP to sign into msn.

Try another IM app that uses the MSN service such as pidgin or trillian and see if that works. Might be a network issue as opposed to a software one.

Did it ever work on the W7 install? Just wondering if something went wrong during the initial install.

Malwarebytes, Security essentials and superantispyware are all good at finding stuff, though to be honest it is clutching at straws.
