Cutting your own hair.....

i do my own with clippers, #4 all over. only thing to be careful of is the bits above your ears and your neck, usually get my mam to sort these out every few months

I cut my own hair with my clippers.

I do all over and then grade up the back and sides using a bump from a fracture on my skull as a reference point. I put one hand on my head and then trim upto my fingers, this stops me going to far. Then just work it round the sides.

Ask a friend to shape the back and trim round the ears (this can be done yourself).

Job done in no longer than 10 minutes and money saved. I cut my hair so frequently because it grows too fast I don't care if it were to ever be cocked up. It'd be at the back anyway where I couldn't see so would soon forget.

Make sure you go in all different directions round the back as hair can grow in different directions.

I've been doing it myself for over a decade now. 0.5(no guide) all over. As long as you want the same length all over then it is dead easy and takes minutes.

Been cutting my own hair for ages, and agree with the comments so far.

One thing to add. The Philips QC5170 is the best razor for cutting you own hair that I have used, and I've owned about six of them.

The blade is still sharp on mine after a year of use (used about once a fortnight). Battery life is excellent, and the ability to rotate the blade is not just a gimmick.

Top product from Phillips.

Looks like its quite popular then. I want my hair as short as maybe Danyll's now off the x factor if anyone watches it, he shaved his all off and i think it looks fairly good.

Thanks for that mate, think ill pick one up and give it a whirl.

Only tramps have shaved heads

LOL OK, then...

I've been cutting my hair at home with clippers (no guard) for years. I've actually only ever visited a barber twice in my life. All off, face shaved the same way, done. :D Who'd pay £6 or so for someone to shave your head for you? What a waste of time and money.

just seen an advert for a new babyliss shaver thats supposed to do it perfectly. Its kind of a round shape.

Hmmm...

I'm losing my hair, which is great fun. I'm also due a haircut, but I don't think I'm quite ready to shave the lot off. No doubt I'll be posting a thread asking the wisdom of OcUK to counsel me through the situation when it finally arises.

I think my main concern is that I'll have an oddly shaped head more than anything else.

I bought some clippers, it takes <5min to cut my hair and I'd rather not pay someone 20 x more than I think its worth (should've bought clippers earlier).

Barbers every few months, costs about £7.

Prefer to have a 'professional' job, and I don't have it cut regularly, so its hardly expensive.

I do mine with serrated thinning scissors (about £5 from boots) so I can do it exactly the way I like it. I started doing it because the last time I went to the hairdressers was when mullets "came back" a few years ago. I asked her thin it out but leave most of the length but please don't give me a mullet... she gave me a mullet.

I cut my own hair too, number 1 all over, cut my dads too.

TBH it beats sitting in the barbers for more than 20 minutes and handing over £6 to do the exact same thing i can do myself.

However i am getting these for xmas http://www.boots.com/en/BaByliss-for-Men-Easy-Cut-Clipper-7435U_951775/ i hope they are good and not just a gimmick.

Seen the advert for that. Looked good but got some mixed reviews where i looked.

But mullets are classy.

No, no there not.
