Take Nuffield Health Centers/Gyms for example.

Usual price - £70pm outside of London with full access and unlimited access to classes

Sign up to Pru health insurance at £25 per month

Receive a £30 per month discount at Nuffield (or Virgin, or LA Fitness)

Gain 'vitality points' with the Pru for: going to the gym, taking online stress tests, reading articles on their website, saying you don't smoke once a year, taking a free health assessment, sign your Nectar card up and you get vitality points each time you buy fruit, generating online meal plans once every few months, etc

Gain 1000 vitality points and the gym fee comes down to about £20-30 per month

Gain 2000 vitality points and gym becomes free (£0), and you're left paying £25 per month for health insurance

ETA to 1000 vitality points without much effort is around 2 months (I am already up to 500 just from the initial tests)

ETA to 2000 points is about 10 months

==

Obviously, if you are 40 or older, smoke or have pre-existing (potentially/) terminal conditions, you won't likely benefit much as your insurance premium will be a lot higher than the discounts at the gym. But worth a look anyway - the Pru quotes are instant and they only ask a few questions about your exercise routine, smoking and age.

it willl no longer be a case of how many vitality points you have anymore though
the deal will from then on be a flat 25% discount only

That isn't the case for me (and I am not on a limited offer), and I confirmed with the Pru sales rep that the vitality gym discount scheme is for life, and I do not lose my vitality levels.

i had a letter from pru last week saying the offer was changing to what ive said

ive been a member for 2 yr with pru and its not the first time theyve changed the terms of the contract.

its not that the contract runs out rather the annual renewal of the premium date for when they are changing the terms of the gym deal

Like I said, what I signed up for was not an offer - the Vitality program is not an offer. It is just part of my plan.

I am not sure what you signed up for, but I am describing what I signed up for - and the 'offer' (the levels you build up with Vitality points) do not expire.

signed up for the vitality program mate
the vitality program is staying as are the points which will be reflected in the renewal price of your insurance premium, its the gym discount which is changing and it will no longer be dependant on your vitality points but a fixed 25% discount.
yours will probably change on renewal

a search will tell you theyve changed the gym benefit before

the letter i got says the change of gym membership fees isnt coming into force until next year, its possible that not all of the sales staff are aware?
you could try saying your friend recieved a letter stating they are changing and see what they say
when they changed the terms last time they did offer the right to cancel

did this ages ago before they changed it to the way it is now. It was Nice cheap gym membership as long as you went twice a week on average in plush Covent Garden, it was bliss.

I used Quidco to save 115 pounds aswell.

it used to be free if you went on average twice a week over a 3 month period regardless of points, it then changed to a points based pricing structure, so based on your staus bronze, silver etc i was already at platinum then so it didnt affect me but if you were relatively new it takes time to build up the points to see the benefit

Yep, as Moogie mentions above, before you effectively started on the equivalent of having 2000 vitality points on the method they use today. So free gym membership from the get go so the deal used to be a lot better. Still pretty good though.

Damn, I joined a Bannatyne's yesterday evening; had I known about this deal I'd have gone with Virgin, which is only 5 minutes further up the road :(
