Is it possible to post an item direct to a post office for collection by someone? Just like when you get carded and have to go to the local branch with ID.

Can't find anything on Google, mainly because "posting to a post office" is a ridiculously vague search term :p.

Because it's got their name on it?

Kindly put that rolleyes where it doesn't belong, and tell me how just having someone's name tells the post office how to tell them it's there, and also when was the last time your name was accepted as your sole means of identification (people who already know you don't count).

Besides, the answer is still no.

I didn't say RM need to tell them it's there - I will. It just has to be there for collection.

Yesterday. I used my driver's license which doesn't even have the same address as my current residence on.

Some people don't so willingly give out their address to people they don't know very well?

If (s)he won't give you your address, what makes you think (s)he's going to be willing to go and pick up a parcel from the Post Office?

This isn't going to fly, and I'd say that's a mercy.

You sound quite creepy to me.

Don't know why I bothered! It's a straightforward question.

OK, here's a straightforward answer:

No, it can't be done.

However, if the intended recipient's name is reasonably unusual then you may be able to get away addressing it to "Name, Town" and seeing what happens.

It's called local collect, but I don't know if you would need the recipients full address. It's for business customers only anyway.

You can do it, it's called Poste Restante, see the link below. You can do it at most large post offices abroard as well.

p.s. Everyone that said it can't be done are idiots. It's designed for people travelling or if you need to collect something from a specfic place, you need to tell whoever you are sending it too otherwise it will be sent back after 2 weeks.

OK, I'll admit I didn't know about either of those options. At £300 (service fee, per year), Local Collect is probably a bit over budget, but Poste Restante might work.

Where did you get that price from out of interest? The RM site is vague as hell but all I can see is "Free of charge in the UK"?

Edit: Was just about to call them and then had no idea how to pronounce Poste Restante without sounding like a douche :p.

Edit II: Also seems you have to apply in person at the branch, ie can only set it up if you're the recipient.

Are they homeless? Address it as follows:

The Tesco Cardboard Box
Next to the bus stop
By a bridge

Back
Top Bottom
