**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

I seem to get by fine with Two tanks and Two mages, mages do the healing/reviving while the tanks lay the smackdown on the baddies.

One strange thing I have noticed so far is that Revenants are by far the hardest thing to kill I have found, I have killed big dragons, multiples bosses etc, but those Rev's are a nightmare

Question if I can before I purchase..

How much scope is there to be a bad guy? Do I have to be good and help people out and go into that tower of death to save so and so etc, or am I able to play the role of bad guy? Would choosing the bad guy options (assuming they are present) simply end with me missing out on huge amounts of content or is there plenty of content through that route?

Essentially, can I play the Raistlin style role rather than the Gandalf style role?

Currently on The Deep Roads - trying to stay awake from the mazelike borefest that it is. Just beat up some nasty pink boss character down there. Still trying to find Branka down here but the maps just go on and on and on and on...

One benefit is that I am leveling up stupidly quick since there are so many nasties. I've gone from Lv17-20 already!

Wait til you meet the boss down there ;/

[edit]Although you might be fine at that level. The dwarfs were my first port of call, so everybody was lacking skills/gear.

Think I have met the main boss, but have taken a break right after slapping him about. Did it look like it had one too many pies?

From what I've played so far, you can quite easily play as a bad guy and don't seem to loose any content from doing so. Though I'm not a long way in, there has already been one major plot point where I took the "bad guy" option and the quest simply played out along that route rather than the "good guy" one.

There isn't any visible good guy/bad guy meter as such though, it all seems to be based around what your actions make certain party members think of you, which depends on their own (hidden) alignment. The reaction toward you from other people in the world seems to be determined by your actions (and class, race, etc) rather than an arbitrary "good/bad" value as well.

Ah excellent, many thanks.

I cant stand playing as the good guy in RPGs, back in the days of pen and paper RPGs I most commonly played as Neutral Evil, or more rarely Chaotic Evil. I adore the Neutral Evil alignment :)

The overall task you have to do is essentially "Good" and you can't really avoid doing it as it isn't a sandbox style world. However you can be as much of a git as you want in accomplishing that task. It will have consequences though and it wouldn't suprise me if you are railroaded down some routes regardless of your options.

I'll happily accept consequences, I would expect no less. Was just worried that if I play as a dark character I might be missing out on a lot of content. I intend to play as much of a git as possible, my character seeks power, knowledge and infamy. He cares little for the petty interests of the sheep of the land and even less for the safety of their loved ones. Sometimes his path towards his desires seem to be good natured, but thats only because there is something he desires from it and for the time being it pays to use the bodies of others to further his own goals. If I can roleplay something along those lines, without missing out content, then I'll be happy. Its tiring to always be the good pet of other people to go and find their mothers lost necklace or their missing manuscript or to kill the beast thats terrorising their farm. Screw em I say...I'll take that necklace for myself and pawn it, keep the manuscript and use it to bribe people and the beast isnt terrorising my farm so why should I care...unless you are planning to pay me handsomely :)

To me it seems similar to BG2 in that there's an end goal of sorts which seems sort of "good" but not really (Irenicus/Bhaal/Melissan, Blight) but you can accomplish that goal with your own agenda (BG-save the world/maintain the balance/realise your full evil bhaalspawn potential, DA-not sure yet, will have to wait until the end, but it seems to be aiming toward the same sort of options), all determined by your own good/neutral/evil choices along the way.

And no loss of content :) (so far)

On a similar topic - rolling a warrior - why do you *automatically* have a point put into a sheild talent? I want a 2H bloke, and I have no intention of wasting a point on that...respec ahoy! ;)

Human warriors do. I got rid of it, since I'm 2h. Have no problems tanking with 2h too.

Like to get rid of Leliana stealing skill. Why does a good char have stealing?!

TrackSendEmail("_self_, [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]","[Playthrough Challenge] Sorry, I had to cheat in " + GetName(GetArea(GetHero())),sContents);

Beware, if you cheat, they know about it.

I cheated to see a different ending at one point, I wished to start a new character but had the option of altering my ending at a save (Just before you get the "offer" from Morrigan) so after my first play through I went back and proceeded to kill every darkspawn in site with a console command :P from this save point.

Do I care that they know I did this? No, I just wanted to see the ending variation, and now I am playing it through properly again with a mage :).

The chances are there using it to see "why and what" people are cheating, like too little health etc.

Or they'll use it to remove achievements gained from cheating.

Either way, is it really needed in a offline game?

Just brought this but got so much college work to do not sure if i will actually get to play it this week :(

Do you know her history?

If you do, you wouldn't ask that question.

Well I know she likes chatting about hairstyles!! :D Typical girly stuff.

I love them human story tried the others but just doesnt seem right :D

I like the human noble too, playing one right now. Dwarf noble good story too but you lose your DLC items at the end! :(

Didn't like the dwarf commoner and city elf whole caste/class thing.

Mage story good and ties into the plot well. Dalish Elf probably the worse.

Does anyone else fine this - I'm playing it on normal and every single boss takes me several attempts currently stuck with the Elves & Wolves, the people who can defeat them first time on the hardest setting must be insanely good!
