Battlefield 2 black spots

I've just installed BF2 followed by the 1.41 and 1.5 patches, runs nice and smooth but I get black spots on the ground every time I play:

This happens on all maps, with my graphics card underclocked, at stock and overclocked. It doesn't happen with any other game. Here's my specs:

Core2Duo T5750
3GB ram
ATI Mobility HD 3650

I can't change my graphics driver as only the one off Windows Update works due to poor laptop support from ATI :(
Any ideas on how to fix the black spots?

Looks like a driver problem to me, or a game issue, I'd try uninstalling the game totoally, then do a fresh install and apply the patches. I had similar issues few years back with that game after installing it and patching it up.

After that I'd look at your ATi driver, won't the generic reference drivers from ATi work with the card?

Think you need to have a good search via google and will no doubt for the answer there is the re-install etc does not work.

The only time I've seen that was when/if I disable Cat AI on my 4870x2.

I'd suggest looking for some better drivers than those off of windows update, even if it means looking for modded ones. Or maybe try something like ATi Tray Tools that might give you more settings to play with other than what you might have with the windows update drivers.

edit: Maybe try this

First up, re-run the 1.5 patch and see if that helps, shot in the dark but it could fix it quickly.

Have you by any chance made any edits to the maps (even if just for SP?)

Are you accidentally running from the debugger (BF2_r.exe)? This is unlikely but these spots happen when using the debugger.

What mods have you installed? If they use a custom .exe (Project Reality and Forgotten Hope) then run them and just exit them normally (Quit button, not Alt+F4)

If this fails to work, try opening console and type in the following:

terrainCuller.baseCellSize 256
terrainCuller.lod0SwitchStart 3
terrainCuller.lodSwitchDistance 2000

If they are unrecognised/restricted then you need to run from the debugger (Download and install the BF2 Editor and you will then find BF2_r.exe in the same folder as the standard BF2.exe)

When these commands are entered it should remove the flickering spots, if not gimmie a shout and I'll give you a larger list.

As I said, the spots are a regular occurrence in the game when using the debugger, so this makes me think it's not a driver issue, however it's worth a shot trying a re-install of them aswell.

simple to fix.
as a bf2 player i had this problem myself

to fix you need to do following.

open up ati catalist control panel and put the slider for catalist AI to advance problem solved .enjoy
