I actually know someone who had a similar accident some years ago. She was following a flat bed full of scaffold poles and the driver had to brake sharply at a set of traffic lights and one of the poles slid off the back, through her windscreen and into her shoulder. She was also lucky in that only her shoulder blade was damaged.

In reality she probably didn't notice the truck stopping and actually drove into the back of it, thus impaling herself. Women drivers.
